Trumpeter, composer and educator. Russ began playing the trumpet in elementary school as band was a school requirement. He chose the trumpet in order to sit beside his best friend who already played, hoping that 'the hang' would make music class more bearable. Initially, Russ did not enjoy the trumpet but worked hard in order to get a good grade, earning the opportunity to play a solo at the final concert. After that, he was hooked. The Conn 8B Ligthweight Artist Model trumpet is a lighter version of the more well-known Conn Connstellation. This model was the one favored by Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw, Lee Morgan, and Doc Severinsen in the 1960’s. I use this horn primarily for playing jazz. 1929 NY Bach Mercedes. 1966 Conn 8B Lightweight Artist Model Trumpet.
