Some family trees posted on the web state that he died in 1896, but this family has been accidentally blended with another. On 1 September 1862, Gottlieb Augustus Edward Malchow married Maria Elizabeth Kiesecker in St John the Baptist Church in Mudgee, New South Wales. At the time, they were both living in Cobbora, near Dunedoo. Gottlieb was a carpenter from Pomerania. Maria was from a family of wine makers. How they came to Australia is the subject of this story. A history of an Australian family. Hawkins brick wall tumbles. Asymp; 5 Comments. After many years of trying, the William and Bertha Hawkins mystery has been solved. William’s mother made it difficult to trace the family history, changing her name four times. She was born Sarah Hawkins in Adelong NSW in 1885. When William was born in 1906 her name was listed as Bertha Hawkins. When she married William Rodda in 1909 she was known as Bertha Dixon, then after her marriage as Bertha Rodda. Larr; Previous post.
