September 29, 2013. What else lies below…. While exploring the Geology of Dunedin with the first year students of the Geology Department of Otago Uni, we got a close up look at the sedimentary layers underlying areas of Dunedin. The base of this quarry is Fairfeild Greensand, overlaid by Abotsford Mudstone. These sediments indicate that the area was a Marine environment around 65 million years ago. Geology Rocks
Thursday, 19 September 2013. Hanging out at the Otago University Geology Department to learn about the nature of science is totally awesome! I have been working with very interesting people on fascinating projects:. Using a variety of tools; brushes, dental picks, delicate chisels and air scribes to remove the matrix (limestone) from 25 million year old fossilised whale bones recovered from North Otago. Cutting up rocks with a diamond saw read for ‘thin section’ preparation. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
