http://southnottsringinggroup.blogspot.com/2015/07/sparrowhawks.html
Thursday, 9 July 2015. I have found this year pretty poor for nest recording. Not only have I struggled to find many nests most of the ones I have found have failed at some point. Therefore I was particularly pleased that this Sparrowhawk nest was successful (well almost! The nest was found on 27/05/2015 and contained 5 warm eggs, these were still there on the 09/06/2015. http://southnottsringinggroup.blogspot.com/2015/08/holme-pierrepont-sunday-2-august.html
Sunday, 2 August 2015. Holme Pierrepont, Sunday 2 August. It would have been hard to beat the conditions this morning - overcast, still and warm, but not hot. If this didn't produce a decent catch, then we might as well have hung up our pliers. Fortunately it did. A team of Kev, Gary, Alex, Duncan, Sue, Tom and I finished on 123 birds (111 new/12 retrap) comprising:. The site did feel reasonably busy with feeding flocks moving throughout, although Long-tailed Tits were few. There were a couple of flo...

South Notts Ringing Group: Hobbies, Thurs 6 August
http://southnottsringinggroup.blogspot.com/2015/08/hobbies-thurs-6-august.html
Sunday, 9 August 2015. Hobbies, Thurs 6 August. As we approach the end of a very disappointing season for owls and kestrels, it was good to find two healthy Hobby chicks to ring in the Vale of Belvoir. Interestingly they were in the same nest as last year and the structure seemed to have grown. Mick P climbed expertly as ever and with a bit of an audience. As well as Jim and myself, my family came along and so did some friends who happen to be the local farming family. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Conditions this time were less favourable with clear skies to start and an increasing breeze but we still managed a catch of 51 birds, 35 of which were warblers again. Siskins were around again and a Buzzard and Green Woodpecker. We are volunteers who ...

Justin's Ringing Blog: First Wash of 2013
http://justinsringingblog.blogspot.com/2013/03/first-wash-of-2013.html
A journal of bird ringing and nature observations throughout the year. Saturday, 16 March 2013. First Wash of 2013. Putting the nets up around the 'E' pool. On Sunday evening there was the option to try mist-netting at a new site that Aron has acquired permission for at Gedney near Sutton Bridge in Lincolnshire. The pools weren't far from the seawall but the mud was exceptionally sticky and a number of the small team slipped up, some more than once! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). First Wash of 2013.

A journal of bird ringing and nature observations throughout the year. Monday, 28 January 2013. Common Gull Larus canus. Meadow Pipit Anthus Pratensis. Only one Pied Wagtail was caught although a Grey Wagtail was nice to see and being a bird originally trapped at the site in November 2012, must be over wintering here. The net was quickly reset and I took my catch back for ringing. Mike getting to grips with Woodcock ageing. Overall it was a great of couple of days ringing with Colin and his team with a r...
