Eat Life: July 2012
http://aimeeterra.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 25, 2012. Two Glasses of Cheap Wine. I don’t often get drunk. In fact, I’ve only been drunk twice in my life. Some might consider that an impressive fact for a twenty-something of independent means. I honestly just don’t see the point. I do, however, appreciate being tipsy, giggly and giddy. All of which can be achieved with a reasonable amount of cheap wine. The second time I was in the safety of my home, drunk off of cheap wine. This, I believe, is the best kind of drunk. This is day on...

Eat Life: Endless Edits
http://aimeeterra.blogspot.com/2014/06/endless-edits.html
Monday, June 23, 2014. I need to finish my book. I mean, there is a finished draft of my book. It was good enough to earn a passing grade for my MFA. But I need to really finish my book. I keep staring at the blinking cursor, like I'm the movie-version of a writer with writer's block. Now that I have a completed draft, that isn't it too bad of shape, the task of fully editing, doing rewrites, and nailing down that second half so it's as good as the first half, is all that much more daunting. Ditch Digger...

Words gotta get out. What’s missing in all these Gen Y stories. I suppose it isn’t a shock that stories about generations rely on generalizations. But if we’re going to be bombarded with Gen Y stories, it’s fair to ask more of the writers who are forcing them on us. Where are the interviews with real people? Where are their stories? Where is the Millennial version of. 8216;s brilliant Unemployment Stories series? Where is the commentary that sees three-dimensional people and not Brooklyn mediaites? When ...

Infamy and Misfortune: June 2011
http://jasonkorolenko.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, June 29, 2011. Sometime during my latest residency with Southern New Hampshire University's MFA program, my good friend Rob Greene offered up a writing prompt he uses in his English classes. He gave me a blank page, opening line at the top, closing line at the bottom, and left me to fill in the rest. It's a fun little exercise that can pull the brain out of self-imposed ruts and drop it into different grooves. I reached over and calmly gouged out his left eye. Apron a canvass covered in red.

Words gotta get out. Boiling in my own tank. It is very easy for life to get in the way of writing. I’ve been letting it happen for months, and I promise it has not been difficult. The big, ugly, unfinished project still hangs over my head. The 200-some odd pages are stacked in a pile, underneath another pile, on my desk. Seeing them daily has me thinking about the last novel I read before I seriously started the whole enterprise. It was. And the Hippos Were Boiled in Their Tanks. Next post →. Enter your...

Chasing DiMaggio: August 2012

The story of a father and son through their mutual love of baseball and autographed balls. Friday, August 24, 2012. Now, I never met this next man, but that’s part of what makes our culture so unique, all these hounds, fans, and scavengers alike. The Texas Ranger, the embodiment of the Major League gunslinger, and man with the most strikeouts, no hitters, and the world record fastest pitch was as hard to make contact with as his heater: The Ryan Express. 8220;So, how much for the Ryan ball? In the pilgri...
