Thursday, May 22, 2014. After what feels like the longest winter of our lives, we’re starting to wake up to sunlight and green grass. With the unofficial start of summer right around the corner, we're now making plans for a busy couple of months ahead and letting ourselves enjoy the little things in life once again. We spent most of Spring so far getting our big outside projects completed so we can enjoy summer out on the boat and up at the cabin! The boring stuff: Garage Organization and Yard Cleanup.

Wednesday, August 20, 2014. The Birthday Bonanza Week. Welp Ry's 35. And he's carrying it well! We recently helped Ry ring in the milestone with a party here at The Homestead followed by a few days up at the cabin for his actual birthday. We put the Big Top up on Friday night and luckily when we woke up on Saturday, it was still standing. Thank you to all our friends that came from near and far to help Ry celebrate- it was so fun to see you all! Here are a few:. We had a beautiful day for the occasion.

Peeking Under The Hood. Monday, June 23, 2014. We celebrated Oliver's baptism last Sunday. He was a good little guy, slept during the mass and woke up just in time to get water dumped on his head. There was no crying, a few looks of confusion and a big smile when the priest commented on his x-large size. Waiting for mass to start. Got bored and past out. Maelin and Charlie waiting patiently for the cake to be cut. Some mornings I find her sleeping on the floor next to her gate waiting for the light.

I am learning that with a growing family comes sacrifices especially in city living. In order to accommodate the new baby, we had to give up our guest room and make it Maelin's room. Friday, November 12, 2010. Ugali Flour A Tortilla Does Not Make. We took one look at the proliferation of avocados, the fresh red beans, the abundant cilantro, the delicious red onion, gorgeous tomatoes, ripe mangoes and widely available cumin in Kisii and of course thought – Mexican food! Our Kenyan friends who enjoyed our meal have given up all dreams of visiting Mexico. The good news is that everything else, the mango and tomato salsas, the guacamole, the rice and beans, were spot on. Life goes on.

When we got to the spot, we were told the trail was completely under water and the water was still rising. Here's a picture of what it looked like. The blue paint on the tree marks the trail.
