Ryan Kerbow: Book Reading #49 - Why We Make Mistakes

http://www.ryankerbow.blogspot.com/2011/04/book-reading-49-why-we-make-mistakes.html

Thursday, April 14, 2011. Book Reading #49 - Why We Make Mistakes. We All Think We’re Above Average. People are incredibly over confident. This is displayed in confidence tests, gym memberships, and other tests of one's skill. Information overload helps confidence, but doesn't affect outcomes. We’d Rather Wing It. Ryan Kerbow: Paper Reading #24

http://www.ryankerbow.blogspot.com/2011/04/paper-reading-24.html

Wednesday, April 20, 2011. Title: Finding Your Way in a Multi-dimensional Semantic Space with Luminoso. Author: Robert Speer, Catherine Havasi, Nichole Treadway, Henry Lieberman. April 21, 2011 at 9:19 AM. I feel like there are probably better ways to form semantic networks than through a visualization system. It doesnt appear to be automated either, so it would require more time and effort from users to create a system that could actually do some good. April 21, 2011 at 9:36 AM. May 3, 2011 at 9:24 PM.

Ryan Kerbow: Book Reading #45 - Things That Make Us Smart

http://www.ryankerbow.blogspot.com/2011/04/book-reading-45-things-that-make-us.html

Monday, April 11, 2011. Book Reading #45 - Things That Make Us Smart. The Power of Representation. Objects must be represented in appropriate ways. An example is how prescriptions for drugs are very difficult to read because they're not written in a matrix form. Another example Norman used was an addition game compared to tic tac toe. Even though they are essentially the same game, without proper representation, the addition game is difficult to comprehend. Fitting the Artifact to the Person.

Tuesday, April 12, 2011. Title: Automatically identifying targets users interact with during real world tasks. Author: Amy Hurst Scott E. Hudson Jennifer Mankoff. The solution in this paper can be used across any application ". April 25, 2011 at 1:53 PM. I think that the data to be gathered from this method has to potential to lead into better ui design because we would be working with real world data vs scenarios. Also, it would be a plus if this could be packaged with applications. Why We Make Mistakes.

Tuesday, April 19, 2011. Title: Evaluating Automatic Warning Cues for Visual Search in. Author: Boris W. van Schooten, Betsy M.A.G. van Dijk, Anton Nijholt, Johan H.C. Reiber. April 19, 2011 at 9:50 AM. I envy you, Ive been getting nothing but 10 page opuses lately. Found this paper fairly interesting overall, since the fields you mentioned (such as airport and medical scanners,) could use a good deal of research in this area. April 19, 2011 at 6:23 PM. My absolute favorite interview Dave ever did was with then-Presidential candidate George W. Bush. Letterman had been tr...Are u...
