Networking in an Old House. I haven't had much luck with the next-gen 5 GHz networking gear at home. I have a lot of old walls to cut through, and some of them have lathe-and-plaster construction with wire inside that acts like a Faraday cage. Fortunately a 2.4 GHz network actually works pretty well in this scenario. From an upstairs room, this is what my latency looks like to the router downstairs:. It's really hard to beat 1 millisecond! Still, I think I can do better. Much better.
