Colin's Atlassing Blog: SABAP2 Coverage SHP File
http://colinsbirds.blogspot.com/2009/06/sabap2-coverage-shp-file.html
Friday, 5 June 2009. SABAP2 Coverage SHP File. I was thinking about the easiest way of planning an atlas trip, and if one is using a GIS viewer like Christine [or if you are lucky enough, ArcView], it did occur to me that if the most recent coverage and species richness data were available in SHP file format, it would really make life a whole lot easier. The shp file displayed on the image here is only 74KB when zipped]. Posted by Colin Summersgill. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). If you have downloa...

http://colinsbirds.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Saturday, 10 October 2009. Some SABAP2 vs SABAP1 Comparisons. This map shows the coverage achieved in SABAP1. I have used the same colours as those on the SABAP2 website. See http:/ sabap2.adu.org.za/coverage map mapped.php]. All the data needed to compile these maps was off the SABAP2 website [http:/ sabap2.adu.org.za]. This is what we have achieved as at 8 October 2009 for SABAP2. Map of the cards per QDGC in SABAP2 less the cards per QDGC for SABAP1. I then looked at the species richness per QDGC.

Stuart Groom: Sandgrouse sightings
http://stuartgroom.blogspot.com/2010/04/sandgrouse-sightings.html
Tuesday, April 13, 2010. A colleague has recently been assisting sunflower farmers in the vicinity with shooting of crop-raiding birds. The target species is Speckled pigeons, of which there are tens of thousands in the fields. Of note is his reports of large numbers of Yellow-throated Sandgrouse utilizing the fields. He has regularly been seeing big flocks taking off in front of him. With winter approaching, sightings of the Sandgrouse should improve nicely, so keep your eyes peeled when in the area.

Stuart Groom: The Twitch of the Tree Pipits
http://stuartgroom.blogspot.com/2010/02/twitch-of-tree-pipits.html
Tuesday, February 23, 2010. The Twitch of the Tree Pipits. Luck was on my side yesterday, 22 February, when I downloaded emails. I had a long list of goodies to take care of in Rustenburg, and was preparing to leave. But had poor views against the light.
