An illustrated history of the Arendzen and Stracké families. Leo Paulus Johannes Stracké, son of Johan Stracké, was born in Rotterdam, Holland in 1851. Epiphania Josephine Leontine Ursula Stracké, who married Petrus Arendzen, was Leo’s sister. He died in The Hague in 1923. The Rijksmuseum lists three works by Leo and the Rotterdam Museum lists six. An illustrated history of the Arendzen and Stracké families. Peter Arendzen (born 1887), my grandfather, was the only one of five sons who didn’t become a priest. He was due to enter a seminary to study theology but he was forced to give up his place in favour of his errant brother Leo, who was already studying for the priesthood but had just been expelled from another seminary. An illustrated history of the Arendzen and Stracké families. Franciscus Xaverius Stracké, son of sculptor and painter Ignatius Stracké and younger brother of Johan, was born in Dorsten, Germany in 1820. He was taught sculpture in his father's Berlin studio. The family moved to Arnhem, Holland when Franz was twenty two. Franz eventually settled in Amsterdam in 1869 and became professor at the Amsterdam Academy in 1870. Two Mothers by Franz Stracké. An illustrated history of the Arendzen and Stracké families. John Arendzen wrote a large number of books on religious matters. They appear to have stood the test of time because many of them have since been republished and are still in print today. I have selected two books to show here but I will add more in time. An illustrated history of the Arendzen and Stracké families. Petrus Arendzen made several hundred etchings so I have been forced to make a selection. However, it is my intention eventually to catalogue and publish as much of his work as I can. I have also included three etchings by Leo Stracké and Louis Stracké, which may be found at the end of this collection. The Rijksmuseum lists 129 works by Petrus.
