Just another WordPress.com weblog. Archive for June 2008. Freak on a Leash. Leave a comment ». I was astonished and kind of scared. Anyway, I asked the man trailing behind his pet, “What is that thing? 8220;It’s a meerkat.”. I should have asked him a lot more questions after getting that response. But I was frightened so I just ran back home. June 28, 2008 at 5:47 pm. Leave a comment ». Or do they pass on the right to mimic auto traffic? June 26, 2008 at 8:14 pm. From Across the Atlantic. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Leave a comment ». I love the letter “x”. It is the most economical of all letters. It stands in for the sounds of four letters: ecks. It also stands in for cross or Christ: Peds-Xing; Xmas; and, my favorite, Xtina. And it can be used in sequence to mean a lot of different things:. X: don’t do it! Xx: Mexican beer/man chromosomes/20. Or if it really smells it stinxxx. Anyway, these are just a few suggestions I have for improving the English language. Don’t eve...You are...

Just another WordPress.com weblog. God Save the Village Green! My research is about big intellectuals (literally, in the case of G.K. Chesterton. Who have an interest in little nations, little shops, and Little England. Not to be confused with the sketch comedy show, Little Britain). As I was walking to the library today the most perfect song came on the shuffle that encapsulates their “Distributist” philosophy in song. The Kinks’ 1968 album. The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society. Instead ...

Just another WordPress.com weblog. Leave a comment ». The famous Arbeit Mact Frei sign. Its surprisingly undersized. I had imagined both the sign and the main Auschwitz camp to be bigger than they are. Some barracks and the electrified barbed wire at Auschwitz. The only major qualm I have about the tour is that the guide and the text on the walls emphasized that Birkenau was the major death site (Birkenau is part of the Auschwitz complex-3km away from the main Auschwitz campus). Wawel | The Daily Quotidian
https://dailyquotidian.wordpress.com/2008/07/18/wawel
Just another WordPress.com weblog. Leave a comment ». Yesterday I spent a few hours wandering around the Wawel Castle. (Pronunciation guide: in Polish, the “w” makes the sound of the “v” in English, so the castle is pronounced “Vaa-vel.) As the sign says, it is the supreme monument to the Polish nation. To control crowds, there are only a set number of tickets available to some parts of the Wawel complex during the day. I was one of the last twenty to get tickets to the state rooms. This afternoon we are...

Just another WordPress.com weblog. Archive for August 2008. I am back from an unnecessary and lazy break. My first post back will be dedicated to Nola. I don’t think these sorts of pictures need any commentary. This is convenient for me because I’m still the same lazy person that stopped blogging for 3 weeks! August 26, 2008 at 1:54 am. Best Monument | The Daily Quotidian
https://dailyquotidian.wordpress.com/2008/07/12/best-monument
Just another WordPress.com weblog. Those of you who knew me as an undergrad know that I’ve seen a lot of monuments in my day. Hell, my senior thesis was basically a study of monuments and memorials around Richmond. But I’ve also seen my fair share in Atlanta and Boston, Arkansas, Florida and wherever else there are side-of-the-road plaques or town-center obelisks that people usually walk right past. Finally-and this is my favorite part of the monument–the last portion of the inscription tells us th...

Warszawa: A Defence | The Daily Quotidian
https://dailyquotidian.wordpress.com/2008/07/21/warszawa-a-defence
Just another WordPress.com weblog. This weekend I went to Warsaw to visit a graduate school friend. Going in, my expectations were low: all I had heard about Poland was that Krakow was old and beautiful and Warsaw was gray and ugly. I suppose that I assumed that since after World War II Poland became the Sovietized “People’s Republic of Poland” that the city would look like some brutal concrete monstrosity. Warsaw’s central train station. To Poles, the building probably symbolizes Russian domin...8221; O...
