This is Where it All Starts: the Soil. Under the influence of the tide, the landscape of Saeftinghe is constantly changing as areas erode and build up. Overall, about 30% of the area is composed of a mosaic of sand banks, mud banks and creeks, with the remaining 70% being vegetated with salt marsh plants and grasses.
