A year in india. Archive for April, 2007. Older Entries ». 15 April, 2007. So I now have a few more words to my tamil vocabulary…. I have discovered that without these two words I would have died of over eating weeks ago! I don’t think i can express in words how often food has been forced upon me…. No definitely does not mean No! No matter how many times or ways that you say it…. It seems that it is culturally appropriate to force people to eat… in fact it is expected! The key to a good sari…. But I am y...

A year in india. May-June email Part Two. Nearly 2 weeks since I last wrote to you all and the time just seems to have flown by… and within that time much has happened…. And has since left. But…it was a fantastic seven days filled with much fun, conversation, relaxation, good food, drink, chocolate and the ever present Indian culture…. The rains have come…! Anyway where were we… ohh yes. And in part they have grasped that concept…. their education is the key to something more. But when you ...I had a gre...

Urban Stone: June 2007
http://urbanstone.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, June 09, 2007. For the transcript from a great discussion panel organised by Jim Wallis and the Sojourners community, with several of the Democratic Presidential candidates (Obama, Edwards and Clinton). Of course there's the usual political rhetoric - but alongside of that it's fascinating to here some of these highly public figures talk of their personal struggles with prayer, forgiveness, sin and discerning God in the midst of life. Worth a read. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Stories from the desert and beyond. Sunday, September 20, 2009. Bilingual Education in the NT. I have had a number of people ask me recently about my thoughts after the 4 Corners program on the ABC focused on Bilingual Education in the NT. Http:/ www.abc.net.au/4corners/special eds/20090914/language/. I dont teach in a bilingual school. I have never taught in a official bilingual school. http://mightbesomewhere.blogspot.com/2009/02/buried-in-ground-that-remembers-you.html
Stories from the desert and beyond. Monday, February 23, 2009. Buried in ground that remembers you. I have just been to see a beautiful film called Fugitive Pieces. It is the story of a young Jewish boy, Jakob, who is the only member of his family to escape the Nazis. He is rescued by a Greek archaeologist, Athos, who takes him in and raises him. There journey together takes them from Poland to Greece to Canada. The mystery of wood is not that it burns, but that it floats". View my complete profile.

Stories from the desert and beyond. Saturday, November 15, 2008. You got no culture! It was hard to argue with them. When the only rituals I feel these days are singing Happy Birthday to someone, or reciting the Lord's Prayer at funerals I attend. I wonder what meaning these really have for me. My culture does feel empty and I once again am forced to cringe at government acting against indigenous people to diminish the things that mean the most to them. Friday, November 07, 2008. I am currently undertaki...

Saffron Threads
Sunday, August 9, 2015. An in-home library is the stuff of my dreams. One big room filled to the brim of books. And I would go there everyday to read for awhile, or at least to smell the books, touch the books and peruse my collection. Perhaps today a charming classic? Tomorrow some fabulous foodie-lit? In actuality, we cannot have a huge book filled space. Instead we have pockets of books all over the house. Even my hallway cupboard. Not the toilet, sorry. In the books and the fables. In the aching pain.
