Sailing Islands aboard Rovinkind II. Sailing Islands aboard Rovinkind II. When Fred and Patricia left port in September 2014, they knew they would be embarking on a voyage of discovery. It will be a test of their sailing skills and their marriage. They will see things they have never seen before (and maybe never want to see again! They will see themselves and each other in new ways. They are bravely setting out to do what many dream of doing, but never have the courage to do. Fred – The Captain. Fred has...

Sailing Islands aboard Rovinkind II. Sailing Islands aboard Rovinkind II. Rovinkind II is a 1984 42ft Whitby staysail ketch with a bowsprit which we bought in May 2012 from Peter and Terry. Officially our boat is pronounced with kind with a soft i and her name means wandering child, being a combination of two words: rovin’ Irish for wandering and kind is German for child. However we pronounce kind like grind – as in escaping the daily grind of working in a cubicle. 42′ 0″. Edward S. Brewer.

The last major upgrade on our to-do list before we cast off the lines and finally go cruising on Our Dreamtime. Was completed today. It was also one we have been looking forward to the most. Thanks to three solar panels now fitted neatly on the cockpit roof, the majority of our electrical energy is now being harnessed from the sun. We wanted. His price...

Front and back cover of our book 'Stuff it. Let's go sailing anyway! Join Our Virtual Crew. Sunday, 26 July 2015. When talking about our cruising lifestyle to non-sailing friends, the question we get asked most is “ Is it safe? In addition to now being sailors, we have always been motorcyclists and have lived by the creed “ If you have a $10 head, buy a $10 helmet. If you value your life more than that buy the best you can. Many of the most expensive items are also those that, with luck, you will probabl...

May be so named as they were believed by the ancients to be the home of Aeolus. The God of Winds, apart from the odd thunder storm, wind was something we had found very little of during our stay and the trend continued as we departed on our passage south to Sicily at 6.30am. The port of Cefalu is overlooked by a dramatic hilltop fortress.

SailingIsHeaven is not JUST a blog where I can brag about my boat! I’ve taken several photos of repair and restoration projects, and have collected links to resources that would be helpful to anyone else crazy enough to tackle a project like Heaven. I have benefited considerably from the information made available on other blogs so to keep the balance of Karma , I plan to host a projects/workshop section with photos, suggestions, and links to resources.
