Monthly Archives: April 2014. Looking like a boat now. April 26, 2014. With the deck now fibreglassed and out of its mould, we visited the Lightwave Factory to watch our boat come together. The catamaran’s hulls were lifted from their mould, and the deck was flipped over and then craned into position. It was very exciting to see it look like a sleek catamaran now, but at the same time it was a tad scary watching it dangling up in the air. Photos below, but more photos are in our photo gallery. Looking in...

Monthly Archives: June 2012. Heading home now – Airlie to Gloucester Island. June 28, 2012. After farewelling Geoff’s parents this morning at 9am, we had a few more jobs to do before departing at 1:30pm for Gloucester Island. Without enough wind to sail, we motor-sailed (yes Katie we’re a motor boat again) to make it to Gloucester Passage on dusk, and anchored behind Gloucester Island for the night. The Sun setting behind Gloucester Island. Gloucester Passage at Dusk. Fast track to Airlie Beach. After th...

The Good, the Bad and the Great Keppel Island | Sailingpages.com

http://sailingpages.com/2015/06/14/the-good-the-bad-and-the-great-keppel-island

The Good, the Bad and the Great Keppel Island. June 14, 2015. It has been a bit of a roller coaster ride this week. On Monday, we had a good sail from Fraser Island to the Port of Bundaberg. While here we were able to get a courtesy bus run by the nearby Burnett Heads IGA to replenish our food stocks. Brilliant service! 5 m grade L chain and 100m of 14mm Nylon rope). The anchor set perfectly first time and held firm and we deployed it with 70 m of rope to give us a 10:1 scope at high tide. This p...Witho...

Sailing over a Cardboard Sea

On a classic (sweltering) Carolina summer day, I stopped by the oldest building in the little city of Jacksonville, North Carolina: the Pelletier House. One hundred and sixty some years after its construction as a home and office for the Pelletier's turpentine operation, this little white Greek Revival building still stands right where it always has: on the banks of the New River, atop Wantland Spring. I am glad to have taken the time to stop and visit the Pelletier house, glad to sit think about all tha...

Pacific Adventures

A germ of an idea has sprouted into reality. I am exploring the South Pacific islands. Thursday, 12 August 2010. After fueling up and some last minute shopping we finally cleared the entrance to Noumea harbour at midday on Saturday 31 July. The weather forecast was not too good after the first 36 hours but we thought it was better to go than wait for what might be another week. The 800 miles of the Coral Sea were beckoning. The wind started to come round to the north and we had 9-10 knots which was enoug...
