160;SMALL CRAFT WARNING. Friday, April 27, 2012. Building The Matinicus Double Ender - Part 15. I've been making steady progress on Mouse. Over the last few weeks. I'm actually almost done painting the outside, after flipping the boat over, but that bit will have to wait until I catch the blog up to the present. Here's a little sneak preview. First coat of paint! The "T" handle plug, and sawn off nipple. A stepped mortise was bored for the nipple and drain hole. A nice piece of sapele! The scarfing bench...

160;SMALL CRAFT WARNING. Monday, January 27, 2014. The Matinicus Double ender- Part 24. To view part one. Setting up the rig for the first time. Setting up the rig for the first time. Cleat layout on ash stock. A pile of cleats and bee blocks, ready to install and varnish. I glued the cleats into shallow mortises. I sanded the varnish for better grip on the leathers. The punch I bought for stitching the leather. The stitching is done with two needles. The guard where the mizzen mast enters the deck.

 SMALL CRAFT WARNING: January 2013

http://sailingskiffs.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

160;SMALL CRAFT WARNING. Saturday, January 12, 2013. The Matinicus Double Ender- Part 21. Fair warning- This is a longish post. I waited much too long to write this stuff up, so there is a lot of material to cover! As always, to start at the beginning, click HERE. My latest chores on this boat project have been to complete the rudder assembly, including tiller, tiller extension, and rudder blade, plus the daggerboard which I glued up and shaped as well. Way back in Part 13. The male thread is epoxied int...

Lingering Lunacy : February 2015

http://lingeringlunacy.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

A record of, and ruminations on, the building and enjoyment of my boats. Sunday, February 22, 2015. UNA's winter "To Do List" is actually shrinking. Most of the tasks have been subtle refinements like loops for the reefing crinkles along with rings and snap hooks for easier use of that gear. The previously used cunningham hooks dropped out repeatedly when reef lines weren't tensioned. Flailing hooks while raising or lowering the sail are never good. Scratch that off the List. First try: angled sockets.

Lingering Lunacy : A Moment With "Time"

http://lingeringlunacy.blogspot.com/2015/07/a-moment-with-time.html

A record of, and ruminations on, the building and enjoyment of my boats. Tuesday, July 14, 2015. A Moment With "Time". In my opinion, Thomas Gillmer designed perhaps one of the top 10 all-time classic sailboats in his 23' Blue Moon. While noted for other beauties like his topsail clipper schooner, "Pride of Baltimore I and II", this little 1943 gaffed yawl is a real looker. One owner, John, has a blog. From a previous listing. A record of, and ruminations on, the building and enjoyment of my boats. Thursday, December 25, 2014. Here's to a year of many blessings . Wednesday, December 3, 2014. UNA Shines In Small Boats Monthly. Small Boats Monthly is an imprint of WoodenBoat magazine. I met its editor Chris Cunningham at MASCF this past Fall. When he said he'd like to highlight UNA in his digital publication, I was flattered. Is December's issue and my boat is at the bottom of the page. Very cool. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Lingering Lunacy : Woodas Creek

http://lingeringlunacy.blogspot.com/2015/08/woodas-creek.html

A record of, and ruminations on, the building and enjoyment of my boats. Sunday, August 9, 2015. Prior to first attempt. The pondering pause. Seagull ready. Nice stem! Fetch up Woods Creek. Perfect evening. There was still enough fetch to the NE to allow for knocking down bugs. We swam, scrubbed the bottom (the Hydrocoat is performing well), had cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, "dined" on black beans and rice, played cards, and watched the sun set. First mate and mate 1.1. A good find in Maine from Texas.
