Kass Schmitt | Sailing With Zest

http://sailingwithzest.com/author/kasserole

Author Archives: Kass Schmitt. Dismasted by an Atlantic Rogue Wave. There may be a good time and place to lose a rig and a large chunk of deck and main bulkhead, but 130 miles off the northwest corner of Spain in a full gale on a pitch black night is definitely not it. Still, it could have been worse…. You’ve got the perfect wind for it! The new Wind Pilot was working a treat as we left the Needles in our wake. Damage to deck as see from the pontoon, looking aft. Keep Calm, Carry On. 8220;What do we do?

Zest | Sailing With Zest

http://sailingwithzest.com/tag/zest

The end, for now. Back in the water, but still so much to do. A few guys who are working on other boats on the pontoon have rushed over to help. One asks if I have a medical kit onboard. Do I ever! I am still waiting. This is taking longer than I expected and naturally I begin to worry. Has Rupert broken his nose? Is he being taken for a scan? How will I live with myself if this injury turns out to be serious? This entry was posted in Uncategorized. May 20, 2013. Blog at WordPress.com.

boat fixing | Sailing With Zest

http://sailingwithzest.com/tag/boat-fixing

Tag Archives: boat fixing. A woman, her boat and a power tool. There’s an old saying that ships and men rot in port, and I’m wondering if the same could be said about boat yards. Zest has been out of the water in Medina Yard. Cowes for three weeks now. Don’t get me wrong, Craig Nutter and his team have been fantastically helpful, and there is a palpable buzz in the yard as the boats around us get ready for the season just starting. But the other boats come and go, and we’re still here. April 7, 2013.

Captain of my own ship | Sailing With Zest

http://sailingwithzest.com/2013/03/02/captain-of-my-own-ship

Captain of my own ship. Sailing Zest off Cowes Green in the bright February sunshine (photo: Tom Loosemore). Step one of becoming the captain of one’s own ship is, of course, procuring the ship. For me the process started with a bit of seemingly innocent browsing of various used boat websites. This often took place, if I’m perfectly honest, in bed on weekday mornings, as I sipped a mug coffee and put off the start of my dreary 90 minute commute. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. These worked really well, and although are probably not too high in nutritional value at least made a change from cucumber and boiled rice which is what B-G would eat every day of his life if he could. And then cheese…. Then bake in a medium – hot oven for about 15 minutes or so.
