Strutting across the Pacific. The “Where”. Galapagos to the Marquesas. September 14, 2012. Eight words to sum up my crossing from Galapagos to the Marquesas: Long. Void. Hands-free. Are we there yet? Now that I’m safely tethered to land in Fatu Hiva, it’s time to reflect. The problem is there was so much down time, that that’s all I can recollect. You would think this would make pulling […]. Strutting across the Pacific. The “Where”. JAWS in La Paz. January 30, 2012. Whale sharks are probably one of the coolest things with fins, and honestly, one of my main I kicked around the Sea of Cortez for so long. In some cases whale sharks span more than 30 feet, but despite their titanic size, I had yet to run into any. The Sea of Cortez is simply […]. Escape from La Paz – An Island Adventure. Strutting across the Pacific. The “Where”. Muddy Pits and Cloudy Forests: Exploring the Interior of Costa Rica. July 23, 2012. When Nicole said she was going to rent a car for inland travel, I expected her to bring back some four-wheel drive American monstrosity, which would be perfect for the rock hopping roads leading to many of Costa Rica’s best destinations. Instead, Nicole rented a Toyota Yaris. If you are unfamiliar with the Toyota Yaris, […]. Loathing Lightning in Beautiful Costa Rica.

Strutting across the Pacific. The “Where”. BACK TO PANACHE: 1 of 3 THE ROAD TO REUNION. October 21, 2013. I would love to write a blog post for my time in New Zealand, but realistically it’s just not possible. The destination is too beautiful, I have too many good stories and, most importantly, I have too little time at the moment to give the country justice in the space I have here for words […]. Thursday, April 24, 2014. Bella Star is for sale. By Nicole and Aaron. After seven fantastic years together, it's time to say fair winds and following seas to our beloved. Over the last three years, she's allowed us to visit some of the most beautiful places on the planet and meet some of the most wonderful and interesting people. We’re going to miss her for sure, but with any luck, she'll find new owners who will take her on exciting, new adventures. She's always wanted to visit Fiji! A special thanks t...

Sunday, March 9, 2014. Heroic cruiser injured in Mexico. Coming to the aid of someone in need is exactly what we would’ve expected from our cruising friend John on. But hearing about the aftermath of his life-changing injury shocked and saddened us. Please take a moment to read about John’s courageous story – and about the strength and solidarity of the cruising community – on. S/v Eagle’s blog. And remember to always use the kill switch on your outboard! Hope to see pictures of you back aboard. We'd lov...

Monday, February 17, 2014. A birthday road trip. It was a big weekend. We were celebrating Aaron’s birthday! So we packed up the car and headed a few hours southeast of Auckland to one of New Zealand’s favorite summertime destinations … the Coromandel Peninsula. This bit of land juts into the South Pacific Ocean and is known for giant green-lipped mussels, beautiful white beaches, lush forests and dramatic vistas. Check, check, check and check. The resident kitty demanded lots of love. The water temperat...

Friday, March 29, 2013. Week 1: Galapagos to Marquesas. Hi from the high seas! Its day seven of our passage from the Galapagos to French Polynesia. Were 880 miles or so in, with a couple thousand to go. But whos counting? The winds are giving us some of our best sailing days yet, although conditions are generally overcast (very Seattle-like), chilly and squally. Its a good thing I didnt put our long undies in the deep storage! Ill leave you with a haiku I wrote yesterday:. Just like skipping stones.

Sailing Away: December 2012

For the truth is that I already know as much about my fate as I need to know. The day will come when I will die. So the only matter of consequence before me is what I will do with my allotted time. I can remain on shore, paralyzed with fear, or I can raise my sails and dip and soar in the breeze."- Richard Bode. San Juan Islands 2010. A boat is never DONE. Monday, December 10, 2012. DoolittleCruising: Former Floating Frat House Surgery and What Could Have Been
http://doolittlecruising.blogspot.com/2014/04/currentlocation-sacramento-ca.html
Friday, April 4, 2014. Former Floating Frat House Surgery and What Could Have Been. A recent event at the Frat House seems to have warranted a blog entry and reminded Ben and I to be grateful for something we tend to take for granted; our children’s health. So as the hours progressed, we anxiously, watched our child become increasingly ill. At one point our eyes met and without uttering a word, we concurred on one simple notion. This is not an exaggeration and we have no idea how it happened, but our chi...

DoolittleCruising: Big Fish, Little Pond-Traveling Up the Eastern Seaboard
http://doolittlecruising.blogspot.com/2013/07/big-fish-little-pond-traveling-up.html
Thursday, July 4, 2013. Big Fish, Little Pond-Traveling Up the Eastern Seaboard. Current Location: Annapolis, Maryland. HAPPY 4TH OF JULY! The previous blog entry left off in Key West, Florida where we began our sail up the Eastern Seaboard of the good, old U-S of A. I had forgotten how different cruising is here versus foreign countries. One huge obvious difference is that well.…life is EASY! However, when we were REALLY stuck, Ben would enact the "We Need More Tipping! This involves using a line from t...

Wednesday, August 7, 2013. Kia Orana–Welcome to the Cook Islands! What do left-side drivers, fish and chips, the English language and palm trees have in common? If you guessed the island of Rarotonga in the Cook Islands, you’re a winner. And speaking of winners, this place is pretty great. Really great, in fact. Did I mention they have fish and chips? On approach to Rarotonga, the Cook Islands. After leaving Bora Bora, we found steep, confused seas and not quite enough wind to run comfortably downwind.
