Writer, teacher, and music nerd. Angola to Zydeco: Louisiana Lives. Unique vs. unusual. Unique vs. unusual. On Apr 24, 2013 in Prose. I just had an unusual experience with two of the books I’m currently reading. How to Not Write Bad: The Most Common Writing Problems and the Best Ways to Avoid Them. Earlier today, I was reading Yagoda’s take on. It’s not something I’ve given much thought to: that people sometimes use. One of a kind. When they really should use the word. Yagoda writes: “Nonunique. On Why n...

Writer, teacher, and music nerd. Angola to Zydeco: Louisiana Lives. On Mar 10, 2016 in Prose. Professor Armstrong wrote about how he would miss his espresso machine back in England. What he missed wasn’t the machine itself but the chance to have a nice small, strong cup of coffee. As he put it, a decent cup of coffee. I wanted to talk to you about your journal entry, he said. His facial expression betrayed nothing. Just the quiet amusement he always exhibited. Brilliant, he added. But that won’t happen.

Summer Girl | R. Reese Fuller

Writer, teacher, and music nerd. Angola to Zydeco: Louisiana Lives. On May 11, 2014 in Poems. I never knew her name. But I loved her. Because when she ascended from the water. Her long brown hair clung. To the back of her neck. And her one-piece swimsuit. She lived behind freckles. And her brown eyes. The giant concrete pond teemed. With kids – mostly white, some black –. While our parents worked. My father’s black Z28 Camaro. With a red pinstripe and T-tops. With a telescopic lens. He took the picture.

Alo Haiti: First Week
http://alohaiti.blogspot.com/2011/10/first-week.html
Wednesday, October 12, 2011. View from the third floor of the school. The week has been packed full of adventure, confusion, and heat! I am slowly turning my sleep clock back because the day ends sooner here, and starts earlier. This makes sense due of the lack of electricity for most, and you usually want to get things done early so you don't bake in the mid-day sun! The heat here takes some getting used to, even for one from south Louisiana, but it already doesn't bother me as much. The first issue I w...

Alo Haiti: Se yon bon bagay! My second and third weeks
http://alohaiti.blogspot.com/2011/10/se-yon-bon-bagay-my-second-and-third.html
Monday, October 24, 2011. Se yon bon bagay! My second and third weeks. View from the road of Clinique Esperance et Vie, with the hopeful beginnings of expansion on top. I also have begun planning an adult English class for the staff of the clinic and school, which will probably meet a couple of times per week in the evenings, after everyone's work is through. Jose the every working grounds/gatekeeper is on the left. Sanding, painting, and painting again, all those edges and curves! The router, which must...

Alo Haiti: 4th and 5th weeks
http://alohaiti.blogspot.com/2011/11/4th-and-5th-weeks.html
Tuesday, November 8, 2011. 4th and 5th weeks. Bonjou from Terrier Rouge! I can't believe that over a month has passed since I arrived; the time does fly! Keeping fairly busy, I feel so blessed to be able to contribute to the efforts here with my work. The very peculiar calabash tree, whose melon-like gourds are used for bowls. Dr Lubens using the slit-lamp to examine a patient. Old-fashioned refraction testing kit. For determining eyeglass prescriptions. View from bike ride. As my good friend Clai told m...

Why not just ask the pros? | R. Reese Fuller
http://www.reesefuller.com/2012/09/977
Writer, teacher, and music nerd. Angola to Zydeco: Louisiana Lives. Why not just ask the pros? Why not just ask the pros? On Sep 3, 2012 in Signs. I’ve been trying to lay off my rants lately about signs that drive me nuts ( see Signs. But after seeing a sign at the local Home Depot that’s been up there for months, I think I’m back on the beat. There’s a few offenders I’ve been eyeballing anyway. Now, of course, I will be the first to admit that this isn’t Grammar Depot, but is this necessary?
