The Friends of Sakonnet Lighthouse. Sakonnet Point is at the southern tip of a peninsula composed of two towns, Tiverton to the north and Little Compton to the south. The Sakonnet River, actually an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean, separates the area from the busier Aquidneck Island to the west. The Friends of Sakonnet Lighthouse. In 2005, the Lighthouse received a Department of Transportation (DOT) grant of $844,323 intended to pay the lion’s share of restoration costs. Under the terms of this grant the Friends need to raise the difference between the grant amount ($844,323) and actual cost to restore the tower. This past. The new paddle tennis courts are at 665X West Main Rd, which is on the right when you are headed south towards the main SGC entrance. It is just less than 1/2 mile from Swamp Rd. The driveway is distinguished by the remains of a cement sentry house, as this was the main entrance to the Army West Church Reservation during WWII.
