UPDATED: Man pulled from Niantic River Friday morning dies. Published 12/16/2011 12:00 AM. Updated 12/16/2011 07:31 PM. Sean D. Elliot/The Day. A Niantic fire department boat and a civilian boat carrying a Waterford firefighter patrol the waters of the Niantic River after a man was pulled from the water Friday morning, Dec. 16, 2011. East Lyme - Josephine (Knox) Lathrop, of Niantic, died on May 4, 2012, at Crescent Point in Niantic. She was born on Jan. 12, 1920, in Hartford, the daughter of James W. Knox and Myrtle (Havens) Knox. She was the widow of Donald C. Lathrop; they were married June, 28, 1941. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Thornton H. Lathrop and her sisters, Barbara and Laura. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to East Lyme Public Library to help with the purchase of books.

On September 11th, 2008, members of the Noank Fire Dept. stood vigil in front of the firehouse in remeberance of the 343 fallen firemen and all of the victims of 9/11/01. Monday, September 8, 2008. Sunday, September 7, 2008. Tree snaps pole - Fishtown Rd. On 9/7/08 at approx. 1200 hrs. Noank responded to Fishtown Rd for the report of wires down and power out in the area. This is what we found. Friday, June 12, 2009. Boat Fire - 6/12/09. On Friday June 12th, the Noank Fire Dept responded to Spring St for a reported boat fire. On arrival, the bulk of the fire had been knocked down by the owner. The crew, lead by Noank Chief Steel, overhauled the cabin where they found some minor extension.
