new every morning: February 2015

Saturday, February 21, 2015. A new refrigerator was being delivered to a home near church this morning as I drove by. I tapped the brakes, thinking I might ask for the box. Deciding that was a little too weird, even for me, I drove on. But I've regretted it all afternoon - a clean, uncut refrigerator box is a rare find these days. And once, a box just like that saved my. Sadly, it rained the entire time. More recently, I've been known to raid the dumpster behind a local appliance store - because by Tuesd...

new every morning: September 2014
http://salemluth.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, September 21, 2014. This week's gospel includes the parable of the workers in the vineyard, unique to Matthew, chapter 20. Throughout the day, a landowner repeatedly returns to the marketplace to hire workers for his vineyard. When those who worked only the final hour are paid the same as those who had labored since dawn, there is grumbling. "It's not fair! 8220;You need to get a new story! Well, no - thank goodness! new every morning: November 2013

Wednesday, November 13, 2013. Remember that day you got your arm pinned between the spout of the feeder wagon and the silo? I had gone to the barn to clean the hog floors and you promised to yell when you needed my help with something. I had barely thrown a few forkfuls of dirty hay out the door when I heard you calling my name. So soon? I ran up to the silos to find you hopelessly stuck. I had to stand on the clutch with both feet to put that stubborn Oliver tractor into gear. Posted by Pastor Lynn.

new every morning: Did you know...?
http://salemluth.blogspot.com/2015/05/did-you-know.html
Wednesday, May 20, 2015. At a popular restaurant on Grand Avenue in St. Paul, the young man who normally operates the cash register always has an interesting or fun fact to share as he hands back my bank card. A baby octopus is the size of a flea at birth.". Did you know sea otters can live their whole lives without ever leaving the water? He froze for a long moment, the hand holding my receipt suspended between us. And then he reached over the counter to give me a giant high-five and a "YES! Imagine a l...

Thursday, February 6, 2014. A good mechanic is hard to find. Victorious. For years we heeded his advice, nursing a few more miles and a few more years out of the very small fleet of vehicles we've owned over the last decade. Without explanation or notice, the shop is closed, the parking lot emptied of sagging vehicles, the mechanic gone. I wish we had thanked him more. Anyone know a good mechanic? Posted by Pastor Lynn. new every morning: I love you, teachers.
http://salemluth.blogspot.com/2015/05/i-love-you-part-1.html
Monday, May 18, 2015. I love you, teachers. Our daughter, a high school freshman, had an end-of-year Spanish project due today. Each of the students was given a tale from a book of stories and asked to prepare a lesson for the class. Sarah was assigned an odd story about a dog who liked to collect rocks and then spent several days practicing and honing her lesson plan. She was ready. Our painfully-shy-in-public first grader said, "I got 13 out of 12. There are two words for ink pen.". I love you.". In a ...

new every morning: October 2014
http://salemluth.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Friday, October 31, 2014. A pinch of gratitude. As Thanksgiving approaches, I enjoy exploring the recipes found in old church cookbooks. Cooks submit their most-requested, sought-after, much-loved recipes – salads and casseroles and appetizers and breads and desserts that have become family favorites and potluck staples. Although I am an adventurous baker, I need to rely upon the wisdom and trusted recipes of others to produce a decent side dish. Researchers claim that a key ingredient for happiness is g...
