The Challenge « Voluntary Sector Gateway West Lothian

The Challenge is designed as an introduction to volunteering and is undertaken as part of a team. It is a standalone award but young people may participate in more than one challenge. The idea behind the Challenge is a taster session to give young people who have never volunteered before an opportunity to experience volunteering with their friends or classmates and find out more about the opportunities it can offer. As the name suggests, the Summit is the pinnacle of the Saltire Awards and will only be achieved by those who have made an outstanding contribution to volunteering. Its purpose is to recognise those who have not only completed the Ascent but have exceeded expectations. Volunteers may be nominated for a Summit Award by the organisation(s) they volunteer for, their school, college, university or the Gateway. You can nominate by downloading the Summit Nomination Form. The Approach is the route into an individual volunteering placement either in school or with an organisation in the local community. Young people are supported to make a regular commitment. To volunteering taking into account their personal needs and circumstances. The Gateway will provide guidance and advice to assist young people to find opportunities that will enhance their life skills by building confidence and self esteem and improving their social skills.
