Dreams. can they come true? I just had a dream that i was at a restaurant with some friends. as i was leaving i spotted gruberova dining at a table. without pause i raced up to gush profusely to her about how much i loved her, and which roles i adored her in. She was sitting with her husband, leopold hager. no, he's not really her husband, but he was in this dream. i think there was some subconscious dame joan/bonynge connection going on there. Sweet vs. bright? A few weeks/months ago someone interviewed (i believe it was in "opera news") remarked that they felt that most modern lyric sopranos seemed to be bred for brightness, not sweetness. or, that that was the vocal quality they bred in their training, etc. At the time i thought it was an odd, sweeping generalization. but, it has stuck with me, and i've mulled over it.
