Brendam's Blog: The source is open, so don't spill!
http://bloggerbrendam.blogspot.com/2008/05/source-is-open-so-dont-spill_08.html
Thursday, May 8, 2008. The source is open, so don't spill! The edit function we are given in. Is a completely different function to the edit functionalities of. Within Word we can edit our work, but the program remains static. On the other hand allows us to edit our creations; whilst at the same time is editable itself. This simple function is the beauty of open source software. The mission statement of. It is under this principle that open source software is taking the world by storm. This protection pr...

Elyse's Blog!!: April 2008
http://cynicalmisselyse.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, April 30, 2008. Has been a term constantly mentioned in the Creative Industries faculty. at QUT. In the Virtual Cultures subject, I have been introduced to open source software. And have learnt that both these terms (citizen journalism and open source software) are very similar and according to Bruns (2008, 69) directly related. Axel Bruns (2008, 71) identifies gatekeeping. The concept of produsage is linked to citizen journalism. Bruns (2008, 74) notes that open news produsage reverses th...

emmy: Music 2.0. Get excited!
http://emmysteph.blogspot.com/2008/04/music-20-get-excited.html
Sunday, April 20, 2008. Music 2.0. Get excited! Through my fabulous networks on del.icio.us. I stumbled across an interesting video on Music 2.0. Today by Gerd Leonhard. The words 'music' and '2.0' in the same sentence seems to be a pretty evolutionary concept, or somewhat overdue one whichever way you look at it. It's no secret that the music industry has turned a blind eye to the new interactive, participatory capabilities of web 2.0 and have suffered huge financial losses. As a result ( see here.

Elyse's Blog!!: Are we Google dependant?
http://cynicalmisselyse.blogspot.com/2008/05/work-in-progress.html
Tuesday, May 6, 2008. Are we Google dependant? This time of semester is the busyiest for most students - we have multiple assignments and the fear of end of semester exams. Being one of those students, I find it very hard to find the time to get everything done. and unfortunately that has been the case for my blog. Google had failed me. Yes, I have gone on a slight tangent and have not focussed at all on open source software, but this realisation has made me a little concerned. Is everyone like me? Googl...

emmy: Myspace promotional system not to be used in isolation
http://emmysteph.blogspot.com/2008/05/myspace-has-not-taken-over-traditional.html
Tuesday, May 13, 2008. Myspace promotional system not to be used in isolation. Response to The Explosion Blog post: " Is the Myspace Promotional System all it's hyped up to be? I agree with your thoughts on Myspace as a promotional tool. The ease of getting a myspace means that everybody can do it. In this new networked model we are all produsers. Back in the day a band would, as you quoted Pearson, " starve in a van for a year at a time.driving across the country playing to 50 people every night". Myspa...

Thursday, May 1, 2008. What Makes a Citizen Journalist Different From a Journalist Who is a Citizen? Presumably most journalists are citizens too but what is it that makes citizen journalists so different from professional journalists? Was recently sent to me. This video titled. Jerry Day: Media and Ron Paul. Suggests that mainstream media still has a significant effect on the behaviours of online communities and media. Although it's difficult to truly 'measure' the effect, even using the methods in ...

Thursday, May 15, 2008. The Winners and Losers of User-Led Content and Music Piracy. continued. This is a post in response to Scott's insightful. I think this is a good point. The internet. Means that lots of people are contributing for little or no financial reward but they are also consuming for little or no cost. It could be argued that what we get out of the internet. Could be equivalent to what we put in. My argument is that the old way of looking at things does n ot. Rights to their music. Should h...

emmy: Sharing is Caring
http://emmysteph.blogspot.com/2008/05/sharing-is-caring.html
Tuesday, May 13, 2008. How do you show that you care about something? You share it. It is not a crazy new evolutionary concept and music is no exception to it. Music was meant to be shared. You only have to look at the origins of folk music. We all have the ability to be produsers. The networked environment of sites like Myspace. File sharing on Kazaa. And Windows live messenger. Allow users to share files quickly and at no cost. Even the gatekept file sharing networks such as Itunes. Citizen journalism ...
