Samaritour | Why do it
http://www.samaritour.com/why.htm
One man's bike ride around Britain - for Samaritans. A common question (and not an unreasonable one) is why did you decide to do it? But first of all, I’ll answer a slightly different one. What made me come up with the idea? What to do with 3 months? I am sensible to the fact that most people I know of my age would give their arm teeth to be able to take 3 months leave at full pay to do what they like. And I remain very grateful to the progressive thinking of Mercia that enables me to do it.

One man's bike ride around Britain - for Samaritans. Monday 18 to Sunday 24 June 2007 (Bristol to Barrow-in-Furness). Day 16 - Monday 18/6/07 - Bristol to Swansea - Estimated miles: 80. It was John W (more of whom later in the tour) that I have to thank for pointing out that he thought there was a cycle route over one of the Severn Bridge crossings. I’d assumed that, as they were both motorways, I would have to take the long road up to Gloucester. A good 50 miles saved at a stroke! A morning of recuperat...

Samaritour | The domestiques

One man's bike ride around Britain - for Samaritans. For those who don't follow cycling much, a domestique is a member of a professional cycling team who, basically, rides for his or her team leader. So they often do most of the leg work along the stage (by say closing down breaks by other teams or winding up the pace to break clear themselves) whilst the leader tends to shelter behind ready to take the glory near the end of the race. Come and be a final day domestique!

One man's bike ride around Britain - for Samaritans. Whilst this may be more an honorary title than an actual role, I couldn’t have a website about me, without the irrepressible Shem. Shem studies the route. Deputy Director of Operations - Weighing in at a positively measly 11 pounds, Shem’s assistant (also mainly an honorary thing) is Sylvia; born on the 19 March 2007.

One man's bike ride around Britain - for Samaritans. It's generally the question that I'm asked most; roughly two minutes after being told about the project. Once you've absorbed the 3,000 miles by someone who's not an especially good cyclist; for whatever reason it seems to be the next thought that enters the head. Obviously it makes sense to choose a direction and then to stick to it so, for no particular reason, it’s clockwise. The reason I’m not doing so is lack of time. It would add nearly anoth...
