Sam's World: March 2015

http://sambrandist.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Ridiculous Railway Ramblings On Steam. Sunday, 29 March 2015. Driving a Great Western 5101 at Shackerstone. Double Header Combination" (R.Mathieson). With an hour or so to spare, we thought it wise to get cooking! Home grown chef Jamie put my shovel to good use cooking the sausage and bacon cobs: grand job. These hour-long layovers do keep you relaxed, though it is unusual to have so much time to yourself! Nevertheless we were kept busy, and 4141 is seen at the head of the 2:40pm departure. 4141 left She...

Ridiculous Railway Ramblings On Steam. Tuesday, 30 June 2015. The "Clan Line" Farewell. A capture of Merchant Navy Class No35028 "Clan Line". I was happy with the above shot as I didn't think I'd get anything in the dreadful glare of the sun. The engine rolled cautiously through Platform 1 at Nuneaton, against double-yellows. Soon enough, she got the away and accelerated sharply northward. Saturday, 27 June 2015. An Afternoon with "Fiji". Fiji" is Lautoka No11, a Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0 tender engine built...

Ridiculous Railway Ramblings On Steam. Saturday, 31 January 2015. GCR: The Freeze To Death Gala. Hi everyone. Today saw the annual jaunt to the Great Central Railway for their Winter Gala which was, undoubtedly, colder than ever. I arrived at the Edwardian gas-lit station of Rothley at around 9am, just before the first train. Upon my arrival a large snow storm had set in. The signalman was probably the only person in the warm. The pair approach having shut-off for Rothley Station. Unusually, the locomoti...

Ridiculous Railway Ramblings On Steam. Sunday, 30 November 2014. Return to the Footplate. Hi there everyone. Here we are again, as quick as a flash, its the Santa Trains! Having checked the engine for water and condition, the next important job is to feed the cat. As can be seen, the process of feeding the cat is soon followed by the appropriate measure of being stared out by the cat until you feed the cat again. Friday, 28 November 2014. Whistlestop: May 2014

http://wyberba-whistlestop.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

The twists and turns of building a Toy Train collection and Museum in the Land Downunder. Thursday, May 22, 2014. Does this count as progress? Because it had deteriorated so much I have elected to scrape all the loose paint off, wash it with sugar soap then prime it, which is the white paint in the photo. After that I'll apply two topcoats. It's probably overkill to prime it, but, well, that's me! An item that I found very unexpectedly in an Antique Shop is this Fowler (Leeds) radiator header tank. As th...

The twists and turns of building a Toy Train collection and Museum in the Land Downunder. Monday, February 23, 2015. The obscure and the amazing! It's been a fairly quiet time at work this month, which has given me extra time to hit the Internet. Not while I'm at work, I hasten to add! This is a nice little video of a small Stadtilm S gauge layout. Labels: Jep S gauge. Friday, February 20, 2015. Probably true. But with commencement of construction of the Trainbarn imminent, I thought I had better get...

Whistlestop: July 2015

http://wyberba-whistlestop.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

The twists and turns of building a Toy Train collection and Museum in the Land Downunder. Monday, July 27, 2015. A beautiful sunny day today, after a wet and dismal weekend. Good news- the painting of all the verandah timber is finished! I'd have to admit that I'm a bit 'over' Manor Red, but I'm sure that'll wear off now that it's finished. The good news too is that the doors are now installed and look fabulous! They were made by TFD Joinery. In Toowoomba, and they're superbly made. Friday, July 24, 2015.

Whistlestop: Inside, on a rainy day

http://wyberba-whistlestop.blogspot.com/2015/07/inside-on-rainy-day.html

The twists and turns of building a Toy Train collection and Museum in the Land Downunder. Friday, July 24, 2015. Inside, on a rainy day. Light rain all day has prevented any further painting of the verandah timbers, as they're outside and too heavy to move inside! I took the opportunity to have a good clean-up inside, and while one end is still open- providing good lighting- I took a couple of photos. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Whistlestop: Really?

http://wyberba-whistlestop.blogspot.com/2015/07/really.html

The twists and turns of building a Toy Train collection and Museum in the Land Downunder. Monday, July 20, 2015. After our 'snow' day on Friday it was a really nice weekend, particularly Saturday. With everything totally back to normal here, when I look back on the snow pictures I can't help thinking 'did that really happen? Anyway, with minimal moisture and warmer temperatures I'm back into painting all the hardwood for the verandah roof, and it's going well. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Whistlestop: A sea of red

http://wyberba-whistlestop.blogspot.com/2015/07/a-sea-of-red.html

The twists and turns of building a Toy Train collection and Museum in the Land Downunder. Thursday, July 23, 2015. A sea of red. We had a marathon painting session yesterday, painting all the hardwood timber that will be used in the verandah roof. It needs dressing, priming and then one topcoat before it can be used, all of which is much easier to do while it's on the ground! My good friend Lincoln (aka The Cavalry), a retired professional painter, came and helped, which was greatly appreciated! Simple t...

Whistlestop: August 2015

http://wyberba-whistlestop.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html

The twists and turns of building a Toy Train collection and Museum in the Land Downunder. Wednesday, August 12, 2015. Unfortunately not a great photo, but none the less it shows the progress on the verandah roof on the Trainbarn. I really like how it looks, with the 'break' between the main roof and the verandah, and how it all interacts with the portico. There's a short section of verandah roof on the other side of the portico too. Thursday, August 6, 2015. On a sunny morning. Monday, August 3, 2015.

Whistlestop: April 2015

http://wyberba-whistlestop.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

The twists and turns of building a Toy Train collection and Museum in the Land Downunder. Friday, April 17, 2015. It's been a bit quiet lately after all the excitement of getting the construction of the Trainbarn underway, but I was able to 'win' something on ebay this morning which I'd been wanting for quite some time. What is this, you might ask? I'm very happy with my new purchase and, of course, can't wait to put it all together! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Brighton Toy and Model Museum. Is It A Bird?

Whistlestop: July 2014

http://wyberba-whistlestop.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

The twists and turns of building a Toy Train collection and Museum in the Land Downunder. Wednesday, July 30, 2014. End of July update. As another month sadly but inevitably draws to a close, a quick summary of July's progress is appropriate. Suffice to say, a very good time was had working around Whistlestop, and with no mowing required all my time could be spent moving slowly ahead. Winter is a fantastic time of year in this area- despite the very cold nights and mornings- and this year has been partic...

The twists and turns of building a Toy Train collection and Museum in the Land Downunder. Sunday, June 15, 2014. The signs were certainly successful in that everyone was familiar with them, but whether they swayed people's tea choice is unknown. I've seen a sign done by this gentleman, Mark. Previously and was very impressed indeed with the quality. I think if I had an original I wouldn't want to put it out in the weather anyway! I don't plan to put too many signs along my fence, which would make it look...
