Named by National Geographic Traveler Magazine as the best national park in North America, Gwaii Hanass includes a UNESCO World Heritage site that contains the best remaining example of a Pacific Northwest Indian village. Sea kayaking here presents a rich tapestry of wildlife, old growth forest, Native culture and challenging paddling. This presentation recounts the 25-day 300 mile circumnavigation of Gwaai Hanass done in 2005 by Sam and Carl Mather of Detroit.

Sam started paddling in 1991 in Apostle Islands National Park located in northwest Wisconsin on Lake Superior. Falling under the guidance of the local outfitter, Sam absorbed their enthusiasm and knowledge. Little did he know, but he was laying the foundation of a new lifestyle. Leaving his computer engineering career and Silicon Valley behind him, in 1994 Sam returned to the midwest and started to build a new lifestyle.
