Franco Cookson: Torridon
http://francocookson.blogspot.com/2016/08/torridon.html
Saturday, 20 August 2016. I've just got back from Torridon. Primarily this was a relax and a seafood trip, but there was inevitably some climbing. I have a bit of an ambition to climb at more Scottish crags and I've always been drawn to the north west coast. Of course being a sandstone man, Glen Torridon has always been a bit of a point of interest. This was my justification for climbing what is probably the worst route in Torridon,. Very handy if you have a spare hour in Shieldaig though. Ive just got b...

http://francocookson.blogspot.com/2016/04/barry-deranged-side.html
Monday, 11 April 2016. You get a feeling sometimes that a day is going to be really special. As the day progresses, you start to get a bit worried that it might not turn out like you wanted. Fortunately yesterday's gamble paid off and through injured fingers and illness we managed to climb some stunning lines. Anna Healy on Piton Crack (font 6c). Dave on (and off) Chuckie Egg (font 7b). The Last Of The Moorhicans (font 7b ). Posted by Franco Cookson. Monday, April 11, 2016. What I've Been Up To:. I love ...

Franco Cookson: Spring! Spring! Spring!
http://francocookson.blogspot.com/2016/03/spring-spring-spring.html
Wednesday, 30 March 2016. Very glad to see the wild moor horses back at Danby! Northumberland is a fantastic place. It hums a vibe of difference. I've been visiting and re-visiting some of the crags recently and it's been a very interesting time. There's so much excitement when you visit a new place and Northumberland is one of the more exciting places I've explored. I also was struck with an enormous wave of awe; It's such a good crag! Anna on Shine On (E3 5c * ). 65279;Back Bowden is one of tho...

Franco Cookson: Unclimbed Lines
http://francocookson.blogspot.com/p/classics-for-taking.html
The Massive Unclimbed Prows At High Crag. The North York Moors is a unique area for climbing exploration- being relatively close to large urban centers, but still offering a barely-fathomable amount of unclimbed rock. The common question is "How hard do I need to be climbing to put up new routes in the Moors? This is not a LGP, it's an unclimbed boulder problem. Quite hard like. Steep, featureless and mental. The Wangledoodle Wall H9 7a. A feasible line of weakness up a fairly blank buttress. Luke's link...

Franco Cookson: Black Knight
http://francocookson.blogspot.com/2016/08/black-knight.html
Wednesday, 24 August 2016. The Wainstones swirls in ancient horrors on the sandstone blood alter. Chieftains slain, classics climbed; Tony Marr hanging from Ali Baba. One line pierces insurmountable above all others. A 'proper' E5 6c, tackling the chin of the Sphinx through contortions in the wild. Against my better judgement, I go for it. I fumble positions and slap onto the arete. I'm really here now - the most outrageous position at the Wainstones. Yes! My left toe curls like a banana and appears to b...

Dave Warburton: Chamonix Aiguilles
http://davidwarburton-climbing.blogspot.com/2010/08/chamonix-aiguilles.html
Monday, 9 August 2010. This was my first 'alpine season', that said the season didn't amount to much 'alpine' climbing. The first week was spent warming up and getting fit walking up to the chamonix Aiguilles. Anyhow, this was home for the first fortnight. Returning to the Valley, to rest and eat our next 'hit' was the Pillar Rouge on the Blatiere. This great crag, gave us a good few days climbing over the next 10-14days or so. The Majorette Thatcher TD/VII/Font 6b crux! We woke early and walked up to ge...
