Sam Pickard set up her studio in London in 1996 with a Crafts Council Development Award. She now lives and works in North Devon specialising in design and print of bespoke interior fabrics and interior accessories. Her ground breaking designs have been shortlisted for the British Design Awards, in 2007 with Rosemary Russet fabric and 2010 with Laser etched Korc geometric.

I began this notebook in 2010 to record colour in the natural world to inform and inspire my own design work and decided to share the inspirational colours that I discovered through my blog. These are sampled directly from the plants and wildlife and matched to printed CMYK - subjectively reflecting some of the hues I've found at a particular moment in time in a flower, leaf, feather etc. Is to divide them. Monday, 6 July 2015. Colour from the Season - Magpie feather blue. Magpies have been flying into my field of vision lately. First on a amazing vase exhibited at my open studios a month or so ago by ceramic artist, Jacqueline Leighton Boyce. See below). Then last week I found a single feather across my path, I'm superstitious about Magpies - is that one for sorrow I thought? Tuesday, 30 June 2015. Screen - Printing - National Trust Cushions. Feels great to back in the studio after a fairly relentless few months of events, and I'm very happy because not only is the sun shining in heatwave proportions, but my Fawn and Rabbit cushions are to be part of the National Trust's Artisan and Craft collection, launching in their larger shops and on-line from September! Thursday, 22 January 2015. These cushions are taking up residence in upstate New York, Lucky things! And yes I do feel a bit envious! Moorland Rabbit led the way in October last year and now Moorland Fawn and Pheasant are heading over to join him which is just perfect. They are my nostalgic take on the 1960's - Reminiscent of reading Enid Blyton, riding in Morris Travellers and drinking lashings of Tizer! Sunday, 27 April 2014. Selecting just twenty-five favourite images from my notebook pages to exhibit during the Land Sea Sky. Exhibition is proving difficult, but having to choose just six as postcards has been ridiculously hard! In the end I ran out of time and couldn't faff about any longer.
