Sunday, March 22, 2009. I just went for a hike at the Sedgwick Reserve. I got to learn about geology there. There. Are three main groups of rocks. These groups are called igneous. Metamorphic, and sedimentary. All of these rocks are. Made in different ways. Igneous. Rocks are made by volcanoes. So in that group you can find rocks like granite. Rocks are made by being compressed. Of itself over and over again over millions of years. It includes rocks like sandstone and limestone. Wednesday, March 18, 2009.

Sam's blog-n-stuff: The Botanic Gardens

http://samsblog-n-stuff.blogspot.com/2009/03/botanic-gardens.html

Friday, March 6, 2009. A while ago I went to the Botanic Gardens. It is a very cool place and it also has some fun history. The first one is an old dam. The dam was made in 1807 by the Chumash Indians and was supervised by Spanish priests. Next to that is a small aqueduct which takes water to the mission nearby. The other thing is a really old dead tree trunk. It was. Chopped down in the 80s and was alive for I think 855 years. The Botanic Gardens is also a very pretty place. it. View my complete profile.

Sam's blog-n-stuff: Sir Ghillean Prance

http://samsblog-n-stuff.blogspot.com/2009/02/sir-ghillean-prance.html

Wednesday, February 25, 2009. Just recently I have had the pleasure of meeting the world famous Botanist Sir Ghillean Prance. He is a very nice man and my Mom told me I should Interview him and write something up so I did. Sir Ghillean also likes to study the indigenous peoples of the Amazon because they live their lives totally based on plants. They make everything they need from plants. Sir Ghillean loved plants when he was a boy. He would look plants up in a book to figure out what they were. ...He ha...

Journey to Ancient Civilizations: Oxfordshire

http://ancientcivilization-geology.blogspot.com/2007/07/oxfordshire.html

Journey to Ancient Civilizations. Join us on our journey through the ancient and not so ancient cultures of Egypt, Greece, and Rome. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad. The Bodleian Library has amazing collections. And all these are free! Talk about encouraging learning! One afternoon we took a leisurely walk around the grounds of Blenheim Palace just outside Oxford. The grounds were given to General John Churchill in. It is an immense park. Sir Winston Churchill was born here, and we decided that he...

http://ancientcivilization-geology.blogspot.com/2007/06/prigord-prehistory-lascaux.html

Journey to Ancient Civilizations. Join us on our journey through the ancient and not so ancient cultures of Egypt, Greece, and Rome. This has been some Journey to Ancient Civilizations! Egypt was truly ancient. Lots of culture. Preservation of ancient sites is a huge issue, and I totally support the idea of making copies for tourists to visit freely. But the key word here is freely. Lock up the originals to the experts, but. All the same, I have collected some video from a nice set of replica paintings a...

http://ancientcivilization-geology.blogspot.com/2007/07/british-museum.html

Journey to Ancient Civilizations. Join us on our journey through the ancient and not so ancient cultures of Egypt, Greece, and Rome. London arguably has the best museums we have visited anywhere along our trip, and it’s not. Just that they have acquired (plundered? I visited the British Museum. As usual I was most drawn to the Egyptian, Greek and Roman displays. We saw the Ramses head. Wikipedia has a good article about the marbles and their controversial stay in the British Museum ( Elgin Marbles. Sever...

Journey to Ancient Civilizations. Join us on our journey through the ancient and not so ancient cultures of Egypt, Greece, and Rome. The Caves of Périgord: Rouffignac. Our next cave took us to Rouffignac. This cave is unique in many ways. First, it is about three. This cave is known for its numerous mammoth paintings and etchings, more than 150 have been counted so far! These were spread throughout the cave and almost exclusively in groupings. Rouffignac also has its own “Sistine Chapel” ...The main diff...

Journey to Ancient Civilizations. Join us on our journey through the ancient and not so ancient cultures of Egypt, Greece, and Rome. A Jolly Good Time in London. In addition to spending time in Southall at the A Rocha UK center we did make it in to London for some fun. In spite of the rain everyday we took. Our first trip out took us to Buckingham Palace to see the changing of the guards. We enjoyed the bands, uniforms and silly walks, but all agreed that the changing. Journey to Ancient Civilizations. Join us on our journey through the ancient and not so ancient cultures of Egypt, Greece, and Rome. The Journey Returns Home. And even though we are “home” our journey continues. Here are a few excerpts of in-the-moment writing since we’ve been home. I just got back from coffee with Donald Johanson. Yes, the same one that I met in Les Eyzies-Tayac. We talked for two hours before I had to rush off to do a home visit with one of my new students. It’s the next morning ...

Journey to Ancient Civilizations. Join us on our journey through the ancient and not so ancient cultures of Egypt, Greece, and Rome. Our next adventure from Sommières took us to just beyond Nimes to the Pont du Gard. Now. All of you will have to think back to your old social studies textbook. Remember the picture from the section on Rome? Once again one of the best-preserved structures from Rome’s ancient heritage lies in France, not in Rome. It was completed around AD 50. Journey to Ancient Civilizations. Join us on our journey through the ancient and not so ancient cultures of Egypt, Greece, and Rome. I thought we were coming to France to have some peace and quiet away from the lure of ancient sites. This was to be a time for me to settle down and write. Instead we find that the campground we are staying in is one mile from the town of Sommières, which just happens to be celebrating its two-thousandth year of history! 8220;Why is the city built on top of these old arches?

When I opened Google Trends today they had a story on how America expressed interest trough search in ‘Same Sex Marriage’ as a result of the supreme court ruling last week.
