I have started a new Fish Ottawater. Blog on a trial basis. If anyone other than my mother (hi Mom! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Situation Normal: Chanukah and Cleveland
http://situation-normal.blogspot.com/2010/01/chanukah-and-cleveland.html
The closest to Normal (Illinois) that I've ever been. Wednesday, January 6, 2010. This year Chanukah was so early that it came and went before winter break. And what can be more fun than children lighting things on fire! This year we started our trip in Cleveland. We had a great time at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. We enjoyed many taxidermied animals and miniature dioramas, which are pretty much the same as when I was a kid. We met Michelle and Rich for dinner at Lopez. Who's in Charge Here?

Fish Ottawater: Halloween!
http://fishottawater.blogspot.com/2010/11/halloween.html
Adventures of a US family in Canada.far from Normal (IL). Monday, November 1, 2010. The kids were very happy to learn that they celebrate Halloween in Canada. However, we had several inches of snow the night before Halloween. But no worries- we made snow zombies for the yard! At night we took out the potatoes and put flickering tealights in the eyes. Our street has no streetlights so it was actually really spooky! Sam wanted to attend the Ottawa zombie walk 2010. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Fish Ottawater: I will not call it a "tuke"
http://fishottawater.blogspot.com/2010/11/i-will-not-call-it-tuke.html
Adventures of a US family in Canada.far from Normal (IL). Friday, November 12, 2010. I will not call it a "tuke". That about sums it up. Apparently, a ski cap is called a toque in Canada. According to those around me, it is not called a hat. When it gets cold outside, it can be "toque weather" not "hat weather.". January 8, 2011 at 7:07 AM. Ive enjoyed seeing Ottawa through your eyes. ;-). February 25, 2011 at 3:14 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Shirts with thumb holes. Erversing e's and r's.

Fish Ottawater: August 2010
http://fishottawater.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Adventures of a US family in Canada.far from Normal (IL). Tuesday, August 31, 2010. However, we were able to leave Normal (kind of) on schedule. I drove the Odyssey with the kids and Argos and Danny drove the Subaru. We loaded our stuff into an ABF van which supposedly. Would reach Ottawa in 5 days on its own. I have been severely missing the beach, so our plan was to spend a few days at the beach in Old Orchard Beach, Maine while our stuff wended its way to Ottawa. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Situation Normal: February 2010
http://situation-normal.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
The closest to Normal (Illinois) that I've ever been. Tuesday, February 16, 2010. Less Normal, more Canada. After much consideration, I accepted a 2-year postdoc at the University of Ottawa, ON. Danny and I broached the subject with the kids by festooning their dinner with little flags. The kids knew that we were likely moving somewhere next year, and they were fairly mellow about the whole thing. I asked them for a rating of their feelings about moving to Canada, and this is what I got:.

Situation Normal: Halloween, halloween and more halloween
http://situation-normal.blogspot.com/2009/11/halloween-halloween-and-more-halloween.html
The closest to Normal (Illinois) that I've ever been. Sunday, November 1, 2009. Halloween, halloween and more halloween. This was the cheapest Halloween ever, luckily for us. Sam wanted to be a scarecrow (from Batman, not the Wizard of Oz), and Joseph was Count Olaf. The kids had a great time Trick or Treating in our neighborhood. They got about 10 lbs of candy from all the nice senior citizens. Joseph displaying Count Olaf's most distinguishing feature: the eye tattoo on his ankle. Who's in Charge Here?
