cooking vintage: May 2007
http://vintagecook.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html
This is a place for me to explore recipes from my collection of old and vintage cookbooks, and just talk about food and recipes in general. Sunday, May 27, 2007. Writing, not cooking. D is top chef again- I'm in the throes of revision, the 3rd revision, cutting ruthlessly (it's easier to be ruthless the 3rd time around, I find- more distance). Posted by mary grimm. Links to this post. Friday, May 11, 2007. D and I have decided that we want to reform our snacking behavior- not by stopping, for heaven's sa...

my novel on toast: March 2006
http://novelontoast.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html
My novel on toast. Friday, March 31, 2006. This is what they used to call it when you re-enlisted in the Marines (and maybe they still do). There was a monetary bonus for re-enlisting, as I recall, and all the Marines said that the money wouldn't make any difference, they'd never re-up, no way, no how. But then they did, some of them anyway. (As a Marine wife, I found a lot of their behavior inexplicable.). Posted by mary grimm at 10:39 PM. Links to this post. Friday, March 24, 2006. my novel on toast: April 2006
http://novelontoast.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html
My novel on toast. Sunday, April 30, 2006. I’m bored with the Rose Lake chapter. I feel as if I’m getting no nearer the end, even though I now have 474 pages. The end keeps receding. I remember a bit of this with my last novel, but it seems much worse now. Which I pretended was productive, but it really wasn't. Why are Carl and Jason going to Rose Lake? It’s the end, stupid. Why can’t I get at the writing of it? Do I need some kind of intervention? Another, the saintly T, says, Yes, we’ve been worried ab...

my novel on toast: June 2006
http://novelontoast.blogspot.com/2006_06_01_archive.html
My novel on toast. Thursday, June 29, 2006. Love post to John McPhee. I'm going away for the weekend to a place where there will be no computers, no email, no novel (well, actually I'm taking the 8 disks that my novels parts and notes are on because I am paranoid; suppose a novel- stealing burglar broke in while I was gone? But I had to put up these links to John McPhee-abilia. In the NYer online and another. Posted by mary grimm at 10:50 AM. Links to this post. Wednesday, June 28, 2006. She goes and loo...

My novel on toast. Sunday, November 27, 2005. Post-it addiction: incurable and loving it. Posted by mary grimm at 5:06 PM. Links to this post. And of course for cryptic notes that I'll be unable to remember the significance of ("The mother-accusers should come later"). A question for the ages: would post-its have improved the output and/or work of novelists of the past? And we'd know what was supposed to come after. For he on honey-dew hath fed,. my novel on toast: December 2005
http://novelontoast.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.html
My novel on toast. Tuesday, December 20, 2005. Having people over is a powerful motivator however, so I'm cleaning. I have a big list (as I do for anything), and I have it minutely subdivided that I can cross off items like "clear out dresser drawer" and "put away magazines on coffee table." Crossing off is essential to my particular form of listmaking/procrastination. Posted by mary grimm at 10:21 AM. Links to this post. Saturday, December 17, 2005. Breathe deeply (always a good thing in any case).

my novel on toast: October 2005
http://novelontoast.blogspot.com/2005_10_01_archive.html
My novel on toast. Sunday, October 30, 2005. Good feelings: bad writing? I felt awfully good today about what I wrote, but I've been schooled to think that this might be a bad thing. Various literary luminaries have said that if you like it you're probably wrong (can't remember who, because I'm terrible at remembering the sources of things). But surely this can't be the case all the time? Anyway, I'm going to let myself bask at least briefly. Posted by mary grimm at 11:54 AM. Links to this post. Friday, ...

my novel on toast: July 2006
http://novelontoast.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html
My novel on toast. Thursday, July 27, 2006. Back, with new pages. I wrote almost 5000 words while I was away, and I did it while looking at this:. So I guess that proves something about writing away from my comfort zone (that is, my messy desk/office). Also much swimming, some hiking (it's chastening to hike at high altitudes when you're over 50), a little shopping, and communal cooking (3 women in a kitchen! Posted by mary grimm at 6:32 PM. http://novelontoast.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html
My novel on toast. Thursday, August 31, 2006. I'm off to the wellspring of my novel, which sounds like something Henry James or George Eliot might say, don't you think? Logan, in other words, which so far as I know is unchronicled by James and certainly not by Eliot. There was a Logan native poet, but I can't remember her name just now. Alice something?
