Samuel Birding: Life and Birding (11th April-2nd June)

http://www.samuelbirding.blogspot.com/2015/06/life-and-birding-11th-april-2nd-june.html

Thursday, 11 June 2015. Life and Birding (11th April-2nd June). After many years of education and academia I am finally left to my own devices. Thanks to the huge support from my loving family and friends I've wound my way through these beginning stages of life and now find myself graduating in BSc Environmental Science, give it another few years to stew and I wonder what'll be on the horizon then. In the sheep fields near Middle Path Farm. Flew over and Common Terns were hawking over the water. We d...

Samuel Birding: The big outdoors (16th-30th June)

http://www.samuelbirding.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-big-outdoors-16th-30th-june.html

Wednesday, 1 July 2015. The big outdoors (16th-30th June). I was based in Falmouth until the 24th June spending Mondays and Fridays working at Perran Sands and on days off I was working at the field or sorting the house out in preparation for leaving. The 16th involved doing odd jobs around town but in amongst all the mayhem of rushing around the countryside I still managed to get singing Cuckoo. On the day list as well as Tawny Owl. Quartering fields near Treverva. The following day was spent nest recor...

Frosty All Seasons Bird Blog: January 2016

http://frostyallseasons.blogspot.com/2016_01_01_archive.html

Frosty All Seasons Bird Blog. Sunday, 31 January 2016. Short Drive-Short Speed walk-Short of Breath-Bam! Again a Stonechat put in an appearance as did Red Kite, Buzzard and Kestrel. And the Owls just kept performing. Anyway, enough of that ranting. Short Eared Owls near Home. Brilliant! Saturday, 2 January 2016. Happy New Year List to all you Good Folk and a Prosperous 2016 to our Hen Harriers. Distant but a great start. So dark was now winning the battle against light and that was surely that for the da...

Frosty All Seasons Bird Blog. Sunday, 28 June 2015. A Lot More at Otmoor. A morning stroll around RSPB Otmoor in Oxon with Sharpy this Saturday. A cracking reserve, well under the hour from home, Every time I visit I wonder why I don't more often. Borderline Midlands, this place has a fantastic diversity of not just birds but wildlife in general. An ideal place for ex-cricketers to have a wander and marvel at the great work of the RSPB. Frosty All Seasons Bird Blog: April 2015

http://frostyallseasons.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Frosty All Seasons Bird Blog. Sunday, 26 April 2015. Grouse Misconduct and Godwit Gallivant. Sporadic outbreaks of violence seemed to be more bluster than menace with no actual wounds to lick. Then, as if a referee had blown the final whistle, hostilities and performances ceased and they all flew off together. A wander further up the moor brought a pair of Whinchat, a reeling Grasshopper Warbler (heard only) a couple of Wheatear and a pair of Red Grouse. I arrived home still buzzing 16 hours and 584 mile...

Frosty All Seasons Bird Blog: Playing Scilly Buggers. 19th - 21st August

http://frostyallseasons.blogspot.com/2016/08/playing-scilly-buggers-19th-21st-august.html

Frosty All Seasons Bird Blog. Monday, 29 August 2016. Playing Scilly Buggers. 19th - 21st August. Friday morning dawned bright and breezy and a stroll up to Porth Hellick provided nice views of a selection of waders on the Higher Moors. The pick of the bunch were 2 stunning Wood Sandpipers. A trek up to the Garrison in the afternoon was made worthwhile by a fairly obliging Icterine Warbler. Had me running and clambering like a man on a mission to the back of the boat. "Behind the Gannet" someone help...

Frosty All Seasons Bird Blog: November 2015

http://frostyallseasons.blogspot.com/2015_11_01_archive.html

Frosty All Seasons Bird Blog. Sunday, 8 November 2015. I've just endured 2 weeks solid of nature deprivation and it was taking it's toll on me. With my work colleague on annual leave I've had to cover her duties and as much as I admire people who do administrative roles, it's '. This one caught something it seemed pleased with? Answers on a postcard. So after a day of driving in awful conditions and some predictably unproductive birding in awful conditions, I arrived home thinking " thank god I got out"!

http://frostyallseasons.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Frosty All Seasons Bird Blog. Saturday, 30 May 2015. Yellow Leg, Second Leg. Firecrests were singing and a Goshawk circled briefly overhead. A Stop at the Meon Shore Hide on the way back was rewarded by a fine sum plum Curlew Sandpiper. An Avocet chick was honing it's scything skills -. While Dad aggressively saw off anyone and a everyone who ventured too close. As I said - just brilliant. Sunday, 24 May 2015. In an attempt to apply some logic to a totally unguessable situation we decided to cut our loss...

Frosty All Seasons Bird Blog: Beauty and the Beast

http://frostyallseasons.blogspot.com/2016/05/beauty-and-beast.html

Frosty All Seasons Bird Blog. Tuesday, 31 May 2016. Beauty and the Beast. Note the diminutive looking Grey Heron to the right for size comparison. After a good preen to make sure it was looking it's best, our lumbering leviathan took to the water. A clearly freaked out swan launched an attack on it, causing it to flap across the water with all the grace of a stricken airliner. It eventually drifted into a bay closer to us offering slightly better views before disappearing behind a reed bed. London Peregr...

Frosty All Seasons Bird Blog: March 2015

http://frostyallseasons.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Frosty All Seasons Bird Blog. Sunday, 29 March 2015. Anxious drive back, leap out of van grabbing bins and camera in mid flight and BOSH! There it was flying low, close and magnificent in front of us. But we'd got back in the nick of time as within seconds the bird swung round the side of the building and went back to roost. We were able to view it clinging under the eves briefly, before being ushered away by a member of staff as apparently we were "frightening the office workers.". Sunday, 22 March 2015.
