Last summer, I spent four weeks on my own making my way from Jotunheimen National Forest in Norway to Bodo and finally to the Lofoten Islands above the Arctic Circle. Unlike the Long Trail where I was able to map out my day hikes shelter to shelter, Norway presented unexpected challenges. Spectacular Lofoten. I started running cross-country in middle school and was just okay until I started kicking it in junior year. After finishing in the top 20 at the 2012 Vermont XC Championships, I made it a goal to improve as much as I could. Twice-daily runs before and after school and training as hard as I could, got me 4th at Thetford, Vermont, in the state championships this fall. This meant our team was able to go to New England's for the first time in 10 years. As a team captain, that was a great feeling.

Vermont's Long Trail is a 273-mile footpath up the highest peaks of the Green Mountains that starts at the Massachusetts border and ends at the border of Canada. It was actually the inspiration for the Appalachian Trail which is part of the Long Trail for the first 100 miles. In the summer of 2010, at age 14 and having just finished eighth grade, I decided to hike the entire Long Trail - solo. If I could pull it off, I knew I'd be the youngest person in the trail's 100-year history to hike it alone.

In Peru with my father. In the summer of 2011, when I was 15, my dad and I climbed Mount Chachani, a 19,872-foot volcano in Southern Peru. Since it was winter there, the volcano was capped with ice and snow, thereby requiring crampons and an ice axe. However in recent years, the ice cap has melted in the summer months. Fue fundado por suizos y hasta su himno tengo entendido es en suizo! Conforme llegaba a la capital todo me olia a la normalidad europea, sus centros comerciales, su edificios altos, esa gente comiendo por las calles comida rapida, haciendo footing, esos carteles de trafico regulandolo, los policias en bicis y quad. Yo en Costa rica estoy encantado eh!
