The Cucumbers (in progress). Renee Hoffman, left, and her daughter Krissy, speak with Vernon from their front door. Renee is one of the several women that Vernon considers a surrogate mother, and he calls Krissy ‘sis’. A gazing ball shows Vernon's bouncing reflection next to Hoffman's front door. Vernon visits Hoffman nearly every day, and she worries when he doesn’t. Friends of Vernon’s continue their conversations outside McDonald’s, ignoring his erratic dancing behind them. Everyone in this town knows...

The Cucumbers (in progress). Polo, a pit bull rescued and then adopted by Pets in Peril founder Edith Campbell, sits in a car seat before going on a trip to deliver food and blankets for other dogs in Flint's north side. Campbell and and fellow volunteer John Smiegel treat Fat Boy with food and a new dog house. Fat Boy's shelter is next to the tattered house of a dog Campbell found dead and hanging from a chain link fence a couple of feet away. A dog living behind an abandoned home nervously approaches a...

Welcome to ALASKA!: Knitted Blanket 6.6.15
http://qcsmith.blogspot.com/2015/07/knitted-blanket-6615.html
Friday, July 24, 2015. Knitted Blanket 6.6.15. Many months ago, I started knitting a blanket. It was a gift for a friend. It's the softest blanket. I think I'm going to have to find a pattern (or the same one) that uses the same yarn because it's so soft and cozy. In fact, I pretty much refuse to knit anything that's scratchy. The color was hard to capture on camera. So if you can sort of combine the photo above and the photo below, that's the color. Jeralyn was my model for these photos. Silly girl!

Welcome to ALASKA!: November 2014
http://qcsmith.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Wednesday, November 19, 2014. Detroit Zoo 10.13.14. There's some photos that may be posted later that were taken between the dates of the last post and this one of Quent's time in Boston and my Instagram photos of when I was at my dad's house with the kids. But for now, I will post these. This girl LOVES turtles! One of favorite exhibits was the polar bear/seals. We spot seals all of the time in the ocean, but it was really fun to see them playing underwater. The tunnel was super cool! This is some kind ...

Thursday, February 26, 2015. Bath Time 2.18.15. Bath time is fun at our house! Jeralyn asks almost every day, "Is it gonna be bath night tonight? He has the longest lashes! Thursday, February 26, 2015. Links to this post. Little Cuties 2.17.15. It's been more "dry" out recently, so we've been playing on the deck. Jeralyn likes to color with chalk on the deck. We make mermaids, princesses, and turtles. I think this is a turtle (above). And I think I have some pretty cute kids! I'm seeing it now! She had h...

http://qcsmith.blogspot.com/2015/06/dude-mountain-53015.html
Tuesday, June 09, 2015. Dude Mountain 5.30.15. We hiked up Dude Mountain as a family. Josh was in the pack and the rest of us on our own two feet. Jeralyn was pretty tired going down, but she did great! Taking a break about halfway up. Jeralyn had no idea I was posing like a ballerina. It was fun! This ridge is so beautiful because it has all of these different wildflowers all over it. Jeralyn in the snow. Yeah, it's pretty up here! The last part of the climb up. Anyone want to come visit us? Simple temp...

Thursday, April 09, 2015. Laughter 3.11.15. Jeralyn was doing something funny to make Josh laugh. He's a pretty happy little guy. And he gets a kick out of his sister. Thursday, April 09, 2015. Links to this post. Breakfast 3.11.15. Josh loves strawberries. And really, there isn't any food he doesn't like. And he's a big eater. Jeralyn's favorite breakfast food is the same as Quent's: Raisin Bran Crunch. Thursday, April 09, 2015. Links to this post. Joshua and Eli 3.6.15. Thursday, April 09, 2015. Wow, i...

Welcome to ALASKA!: Prince Rupert 6.12.15
http://qcsmith.blogspot.com/2015/07/destination-prince-rupert-61215.html
Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Prince Rupert 6.12.15. In those 2 hours, we were scolded by another ferry passenger (who Quent thinks was joking, but I do not) and then we had to give our apples to the border control officer. Apples can be pretty dangerous, I suppose. Haha! We did all manage to fall back asleep once we arrived at our hotel. It would be the last time we would sleep on a real bed in 11 days. And so began our 2015 British Columbia family vacation:. More to come soon! Wednesday, July 29, 2015.
