Best National Park – Yosemite (grandeur was incredible). Almost Best National Park – Glacier (the name says it all). Best State – Montana (beautiful country). Best Hotel – Anacortes in Washington State. Most Gratuitous use of wood in a hotel – Yellowstone Lodge. Best Dinner – Florence, Oregon (overlooking the river).

Friday, July 3, 2009. Getting our kicks on Route 66 today….Gallup, New Mexico, Flagstaff, Arizona, don’t forget Winona….And we’ve even listened to 2 renditions of that song. One by Nat King Cole and then Natalie Cole. We’ve been singing it all day! We’re easily entertained! We’ve lost an hour today…back in the Mountain time zone….still going east on I-40 through New Mexico; planning to spend the night in Santa Rosa at a place that’s on historic Route 66! Then on to Oklahoma City tomorrow.

Wednesday, July 8, 2009. Tie a Yellow Ribbon 'Round The Old Oak Tree. I've done my time, I'm comin' home.It's been 4 1/2 long weeks, do you still love me. Thank you, Tony Orlando and Dawn! They had six kids, the last one dying in 1991. Plenty of grandchildren still living though, about 25! But Billy’s old gas station has been turned into a museum, also! It still has the old gas pump outside, with chairs lined up beside the front door. Looks just like a scene out of Mayberry. Great American Road Trip.

Sunday, July 5, 2009. OOOOOk-la-homa.where the wind comes sweeping down the plains. Happy 4th of July to everyone! We’ve left New Mexico behind, sailed through Texas without stopping! That’s right, all the way across Texas! Of course, it was across the panhandle! WE stopped in Santa Rosa, New Mexico, which is on the old Route 66, and went to a restaurant down the street from the hotel. The restaurant has been in continuous operation since 1959! It’s all relative! I was starting to go through withdrawal!

Thursday, July 2, 2009. It’s Wednesday morning and we’re in California…again. We spent the night just outside of Reno, Nevada! Yes, we’re still married! Happy Birthday, Janelle! My brother called to see where we’d be next Monday…I don’t know where I’ll be tonight! Tuesday was an amazing day. We spent the night Monday in Florence, Oregon which is just off the coast of Oregon. Going inland, we started to warm up! I don’t know when their summer is, but it’s not in June! Nothing but us, the farmland, prairie...

Thursday, July 2, 2009. We’ve left the mountain top….for the desert! Temps this morning were in the 70’s and now it’s around 107 degrees! What a difference a few hundred miles make! After leaving the high elevations and winding roads yesterday, we changed our game plan and especially the route! To head east, we were Tioga pass at plus 9900 feet. We couldn’t take it again!
