Beyond the Comfort Zone. Sunday, December 19, 2010. After hours of staring at the painting, when I try to go to sleep later that night, I can actually see after-images of the scales when my eyes are closed. Kind of like a phantom image, not as defined as when I am actually looking at it. I suppose the paintings are like children. Today I'm just a little frustrated with them. Maybe I always did - some have called me stubborn. Anyway, regarding the last post. So What to do with empty rooms in a rent-controlled house on the busiest transit line in town? Tuesday, March 29, 2011. Gottfried Helnwein lecture at SFAI. Spoke at the SF Art Institute last night. It was the visual artists' standard (slide show with commentary) even the standard disclaimer, "I hate making speeches." But he had an entertaining collection of stories and anecdotes and he was very open to questions from the audience, sometimes letting the questions dictate the direction of the talk. He ended the slide show with an image from his stage set in the Israeli Opera, "The Child Dreams.".
