An urban approach to BBQ. Sunday, May 24, 2015. Bottling S&S brand BBQ sauce - This is how we do it! Ever walk around a grocery store and wonder what goes into the manufacturing of food products? Unless you're looking at groceries in a farmers market or a boutique food shop the manufacturing process looks a lot like semi trucks, large warehouses and enormous bottling lines. Sarah drives to the east bay and picks up jars. Sarah drives down to the peninsula and picks up organic ketchup. Our bottling crew a...

An urban approach to BBQ. Thursday, July 24, 2014. DIY Hawaiian Style Pulehu Short Ribs. As some of you may remember, back in May I traveled to Honolulu, HI and had some amazing BBQ off a food truck called Mahalo Kau Kau Grill. They are pretty damn good. Here's how to do it. 1 - Find Kiawe wood. They chunk it to order and only ship out once a week so make sure you order this plenty in advance. 2 - Find a good butcher shop. 1-2"in. piece of ginger, peeled and smashed. 1/2 cup soy sauce. 1/4 cup brown sugar.

An urban approach to BBQ. Friday, May 16, 2014. Mahalo Kau Kau Grill. On my most recent food trip I not only discovered how amazing Honolulu is but also that it has a totally legit BBQ truck. Right downtown, completely unassuming, would of walked right passed it if it were not for a friend who told me how good it was. He was right, but the food wasn't just good it was some of the best BBQ I've ever had. BBQ sauce is really really good! Kau Kau makes spicy and shoyu ahi pokes as well. Both versions ar...

An urban approach to BBQ. Wednesday, January 28, 2015. Great view and respectable BBQ at The Pub. If you're a San Francisco local you tend to stay away from Fisherman's wharf like it's the plague. But what I bet you didn't realize is that there is a hidden gem called The Pub down at Ghirardelli square right smack in front of you in clear view. On my last visit I was able to try a good sampling of some of the dishes they have to offer on the very extensive menu. They are basically pork spareribs that have...

An urban approach to BBQ. Saturday, August 30, 2014. BBQ at the Beach. Spending Labor Day weekend this year at my brother's in Santa Cruz. Between hiking in the redwoods and napping on the beach today I happily came across a BBQ joint called Mission St. BBQ. They keep their smokers right out front proudly displaying the fact that they do indeed smoke their meats with wood and fire. Here's what I grubbed on. The St. Louis style pork rib. Was basically just chopped cabbage with maybe a little vinegar on it...

City-Que: Jamaican jerk shack in ritzy Menlo Park
http://www.city-que.com/2015/02/jamaican-jerk-shack-in-ritzy-menlo-park.html
An urban approach to BBQ. Saturday, February 28, 2015. Jamaican jerk shack in ritzy Menlo Park. I am a big fan of Jamaican jerk. I learned of Back A Yard Caribbean American Grill. While watching Check, Please! One day. Since I work down on the peninsula most of the week I decided to pay them a visit for lunch one day before work. The first thing I liked about this place when I pulled up was it's "shacky" appearance. When it comes to ethnic food or BBQ the "shackier" the better! Menlo Park, CA 94025.
