the santa fe trail

Conversation starters for the journey of faith. Monday, February 19. Hopeful things happening across the pond with the arrival of Barack Obama. On the scene. The cynic in me says he doesn't have the cash to see this early enthusiasm through to the end, but you never know - perhaps the US is ready for him? I'll be watching his campaign with interest. Genevieve sent me this quote from his book,. The Audacity of Hope,. Which I think I'll be reading sometime soon. Shame I don't get a vote. Monday, January 22.

the santa fe trail: February 2006

http://www.santafetrail.blogspot.com/2006_02_01_archive.html

Conversation starters for the journey of faith. Saturday, February 18. Stuart made this comment which I thought was worth starting a new thread for:. I wonder why we often try to match up scripture passages with one another. What I mean is, what about the notion that all of the different writers of scripture had their own theologies, just like we do? See Stuart's original post. Posted by Jamie at Saturday, February 18, 2006. Monday, February 6. Theology is a community affair". If you are interested in be...

the santa fe trail: May 2006

http://www.santafetrail.blogspot.com/2006_05_01_archive.html

Conversation starters for the journey of faith. Friday, May 26. Throwing in the cowl, or kicking the habit? The santa fe trail has been a little quiet for the last couple of weeks. Sorry about that. There are a few reasons - one is that I've been busy chatting and posting on other blogs a bit, as well as being busy with assignments and stuff. Another reason is best summarised by my previous post - just wanting to make sure thinking doesn't become an idol. So what's the connection? Spurgeon (at least acco...

the santa fe trail: July 2006

http://www.santafetrail.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html

Conversation starters for the journey of faith. Tuesday, July 25. Sorry for my silence on SFT these last few weeks. We've been moving house, and I have taken up a post as Assistant Pastor at Bishopbriggs Community Church. In Glasgow. In fact, I'm sitting in my new office right now. Yes I have finally left studentdom and entered a brave new world of gainful employment! But I hope I'll be able to continue posting my thoughts on the trail. On the Generous Orthodoxy Thinktank. Are you sure about that? P 2) M...

the santa fe trail: We have a Dream

http://www.santafetrail.blogspot.com/2007/01/we-have-dream.html

Conversation starters for the journey of faith. Wednesday, January 17. We have a Dream. Probably the weirdest/toughest part of my job (Assistant Pastor at Bishopbriggs Community Church. Is that there is no 'quantifiable product' with which to measure my day's work. Someone at a party asks you what your job involves, and it's hard to answer the question. Or you get to the end of a day and think "what did I do today? One page in Frost and Hirsch's "The Shaping of Things to Come". Condsidered philosophicall...

the santa fe trail: June 2006

http://www.santafetrail.blogspot.com/2006_06_01_archive.html

Conversation starters for the journey of faith. Wednesday, June 21. At a youth camp, an enterprising youth pastor came up with the idea of making bracelets with the intials 'WWJD? On them. The "What Would Jesus Do? Idea has since become an enormous success worldwide, with bracelets (and other paraphernalia) available across the english-speaking world. It is practically the standard for moral decision-making in many circles, and young people especially find great comfort and challenge in its simplicity.

coffee shop theology: March 2006

http://coffeeshoptheology.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html

Incarnational spirituality for edinburgh's cafe culture. Thursday, March 09, 2006. CST 12/3/06 "Living Isaiah 58". On: 12th March 2006 @ 8.30pm. At: Favorit (Teviot Place) (view map). Seed Thoughts and Questions on Living Isaiah 58. With thanks to Wes White). Biblical hope has the power to effect change, since God is involved in effecting it. We have too often limited this hope in the arena of justice-seeking. Religious fervour is well and good as long as it is likewise convenient" (Wes White). What migh...

Looking for my fig tree: August 2006

http://lookingformyfigtree.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html

Looking for my fig tree. A record of some of my theological thoughts, some deep, some pretty shallow. The title comes from Micah 4:4. Monday, August 28, 2006. If Christians were Engines . If Christians were engines would they be fueled by a hatred of sin or by a loving concern for the plight of humanity? Do people become Christians because they share God's hatred of sin and seek the only way to be free from sin? Or is it because they are so truck with the depth of love God has for humanity? He world so m...

Looking for my fig tree. A record of some of my theological thoughts, some deep, some pretty shallow. The title comes from Micah 4:4. Wednesday, May 24, 2006. Perhaps then as now, the questioning of doctrine was merely the outworking of contextual theology but for a late modern setting, even if looking back we would say they went too far in ending up with a Unitarian doctrine. So what is happening today? Although I don't want to say thats it for sure! Liberal theology had no option but to deny Trinity, b...

Incarnational spirituality for edinburgh's cafe culture. Thursday, May 25, 2006. On: Sunday 28th May @ 8.30pm. At: the new Beanscene. It's that time again! There are a couple of hot topics on our lips at the moment, bouncing in and out of our conversations when we can grab them. It's probably time to get together (or is it? See link below) and chew some of these things over. And that's the best place to enter this conversation. See you there, all welcome! Posted by Jamie at 1:45 AM. The santa fe trail.

WARNING - mature audiences only! We'll be digging into some pretty foundational stuff for Christians this time, so we must tread lightly! Please pray for the discussion this week. Nodrog's Gruntlings: October 2009

http://gruntlings.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

A whimsical wander through my life, bits of the universe, and everything else that is publishable. Personal reflection, stuff I've read on the web, a bit of theology if you're lucky. And now. periodic updates on my weight! Thursday, October 01, 2009. I'm thinking of returning to blogging. In fact, since I am writing this post, I guess I have returned but it could easily be a one-off (again! And if that applied in 'placement-land', it certainly goes double for probation. Looking for my fig tree: Judging Judgement (1): Punishment

http://lookingformyfigtree.blogspot.com/2006/10/judging-judgement-1-punishment.html

Looking for my fig tree. A record of some of my theological thoughts, some deep, some pretty shallow. The title comes from Micah 4:4. Monday, October 09, 2006. Judging Judgement (1): Punishment. I'm curious about judgement and punishment. We cannot ignore their existence in the Bible, although some might like to do so in the name of cultural relevance. On the other hand, the search for cultural relevance has revealed a blase approach to the way terms like judgement and punishment are used. Brash By Name .

And now. periodic updates on my weight! Wednesday, July 23, 2008. A short but hopefully provocative post for my return to blogging.
