Once upon a drive to beautiful Cagayan
https://wanderfinds.wordpress.com/2015/01/23/once-upon-a-drive-to-beautiful-cagayan
Snapshots of discoveries, experiences and places from my wanderings. Once upon a drive to beautiful Cagayan. I enjoy road trips up northeast to Cagayan valley even if it means being behind the wheel for long hours. The valley has a wealth of natural and breathtaking landscapes on and around its misty mountains to its dramatic coastlines and unspoiled white beaches. I have traveled there several times before but have been to only a very small part of it. Iquig, Cagayan Valley. It took us almost an hour by...

Snapshots of discoveries, experiences and places from my wanderings. A favorite stay: Dar Mounir. Parts of what made my trips to Morocco interesting are stays in real homes or riads or little inns in the medina. Each place had its own character and appeal that add to a memorable experience in a particular place. One such stay was in Dar Mounir in Chefchaouen. The charming inn is located very near the… Read More A favorite stay: Dar Mounir. December 29, 2014. December 31, 2014. December 24, 2014. It was p...

Ignorance is bliss – Sailing the Saronic
https://wanderfinds.wordpress.com/2015/02/05/ignorance-is-bliss-sailing-the-saronic
Snapshots of discoveries, experiences and places from my wanderings. Ignorance is bliss – Sailing the Saronic. I think the boldest travel decision my friends and I have ever made was to charter a yacht, something average budgeted travelers like us wouldn’t normally consider as an option. The catamaran was surprisingly very comfortable and spacious with six cabins each with its own head and wash basin and shower. There was a chase boat, a vast partly open-air salon and a U-shaped spacious galley and a...

The kindness of strangers
https://wanderfinds.wordpress.com/2014/09/19/the-kindness-of-strangers
Snapshots of discoveries, experiences and places from my wanderings. The kindness of strangers. Trouble began when we couldn’t find our seats on the train to Marrakech. Our tickets had seat numbers printed on them but the funny thing was we couldn’t find the seats. The little boy and his mother saved my day. She had the friendliest smile and then uttered something that sounded like marksh? I smiled back and nodded thinking she meant Marrakech as her little son who was sitting beside me offered some sweets.

My Epic rail journey – Part 1
https://wanderfinds.wordpress.com/2015/07/08/my-epic-rail-journey
Snapshots of discoveries, experiences and places from my wanderings. My Epic rail journey – Part 1. After years of pondering and months of preparation, a friend and I finally hopped on the train from Beijing to Moscow and traveled a total of 129 hours, 7,300 kilometers across 3 different time zones. Why take the train when you can fly? The Beijing Central Railway Station where we boarded the the K3 to Ulan-Bator. Most passengers in the Beijing to Ulan-bataar train were tourists who took turns to get a de...

Enthralling Wadi Rum
https://wanderfinds.wordpress.com/2015/03/03/enthralling-wadi-rum-2
Snapshots of discoveries, experiences and places from my wanderings. No man can live this life and emerge unchanged. He will carry. the imprint of the desert and he will have within him the yearning to return. For this cruel land can cast a spell which no temperate clime can match.’. Still ecstatic after my Petra experience, I thought there was no other place in Jordan that was magnificent. I was wrong. Entering Wadi rum was like entering a different world. I was in awe of the natural scenery. You can ge...

Bukhara a living museum
https://wanderfinds.wordpress.com/2015/05/18/bukhara-a-living-museum
Snapshots of discoveries, experiences and places from my wanderings. Bukhara a living museum. It got more and more interesting as we traveled west to the smaller but equally historically rich cities in the Silk Route. I liked Bukhara the most, for its relaxed and charming old town atmosphere and where I enjoyed walks to marketplaces and where I sneaked out before breakfast for sweets in the local bakery, of course not to forget the very amusing experience at the ancient cavernous Hammam Bozori Kord.

Pretty shades of Blue
https://wanderfinds.wordpress.com/2015/01/03/pretty-shades-of-blue
Snapshots of discoveries, experiences and places from my wanderings. Pretty shades of Blue. The newer part of town is colorless but the old medina, set against the dramatic Rif Mountains is picturesque. What makes it even more attractive is its color. Jewish refugees who were expelled from Spain and who lived there in the 1930’s painted it white with bright powder blue accents. Why? I never really got to know. It was easier for me to shop. Spanish is still spoken by locals unlike in the South, where ...
