Many of our clients live alone and have little family and social support. They are not aware of programs they may be eligible for or if they are, they have tried to apply on their own, but have been turned down because of onerous government bureaucracy. Senior Advocates of the Desert was founded so that low-income seniors can make one phone call and be provided the information, assistance, and advocacy they need to navigate through the government benefits application process. Too often, seniors make a phone call to a government agency and they get the runaround, whether it’s not being able to talk to a live person or if they do, not receiving adequate assistance in the application process. Frequently they just give up. We don’t charge for our services.

Volunteering for Senior Advocates can be a very fulfilling and an enjoyable way to give back to the community. Most importantly, it greatly expands the number of clients we can serve. We are looking for volunteers to assist clients with transportation to government agencies and medical appointments. Activities include: Meeting with clients at their homes, driving them to a facility, helping them into the facility as needed and returning them home at a pre-arranged time.
