The Artist in the Library. Just another WordPress.com site. Edward worked closely with the library’s team of shelvers, interviewing them about their favourite books in the library collection. Out of the book took one of these: ‘Engineering Mathematics’ and developed a short dance piece, inspired by the book’s content and Edward’s experience of working with the shelvers. Laura Cassidy | The Artist in the Library

The Artist in the Library. Just another WordPress.com site. Library Games engaged computer games students, amongst others, with the library at Docklands by developing real-time games that physically explored the library building. Laura devised a real-world version of ‘Pacman’ in which competing teams raced to collect coloured ping-pong balls from the bookshelves. Several rounds of hide and seek were also played in the library building, with groups ranging from four to ten players. Enter your comment here.

Developed from observations of the stress suffered by students especially towards the end of semester, Jane staffed a desk throughout the day at Mayfest, offering hand massages, breathing exercises, and tips for workload management. Lonely Escapism is an alternative view of what libraries can be for not just places to learn, but calm, tranquil, public places to escape to. This was developed as a spoken word piece, drawing inspiration from library users who identify with this idea of the library space. Library Orienteering draws inspiration from ideas around libraries of discovery, learning something new and being like a detective finding information. A participatory process developed over the weeks leading up to Mayfest asked students and other library users to find and respond to a series of quotes hidden in library books. The idea of chance the possible accidental encounter with a quote is also important to the project.

The Artist in the Library. Just another WordPress.com site. Library Song was developed from the idea that there’s no such thing as silence in a library. Lacey interviewed library users about their perception of noise (and quiet) in the library asking them what their expectations were for levels of sound.
