Sarah Bear's Story
Welcome to our blog! The place to be to learn about growing up with pediatric brain injury and a wonderful little girl named Sarah, as told by Sarah's Mom! End The Wait Now! Ordinarily, I try to focus on the positive in this narrative - but this time, it's not possible. For starters, I'm filled with sighs and "OMG! How could I have . . ? Check or a funded service or item that she needs. Well, despite the polite promises of those I talked to or the fine-sounding "Mission Statements" on their Websites, it ...

Sarah Bearup-Neal: Studio Quilts - Home
Sarah Bearup-Neal: Studio Quilts. In the mid-1980s I visited a small historical museum in Flint, Michigan, to look at an exhibition of traditional quilts. There was a twist: The quilts were hung from the ceiling, rather than spread horizontally across a bed. It was explained to me these quilts were being exhibited for the strength of their design. Quilts as Capital “A” Art? The idea struck me as revolutionary, and it germinated in my brain for 20 years. Like a quilt, my life is very much about the home: ...

Butterfly Catcher’s Net. November 13, 2012 by sarahbeata. 15 yards of tulle or other “net” fabric. 4′ wooden dowel, approx 3/4 inch diameter. Twine – I used the hemp kind you get at a garden store. I searched the interwebs for one of those fabulous huge nets, but the cheapest one I found was over $30. Not in the budget, I’m afraid. So, in my abundant spare time, I decided to make one. I had most of the supplies and tools I required, all I needed was a nice wooden dowel and some tulle. SAT word of the day!
Can't set my hopes up to high because every hello ends with a goodbye...
Can't set my hopes up to high because every hello ends with a goodbye. The best part of life. No he is not my son. He is my wonderful nephew. I couldn't ask for a better one. I love him more than life it's self. This little boy, has been my insperation to change. He is the one thing in my life, I know will always be there for me. I remember the day I took this. I was crying, and he came into my room and cuddled up onto my bed, and looked at me like this. And I'd rewind everything back to you and I. Sarah...

Beattie's Babels
Monday, January 9, 2012. Here's a couple more pictures from when I was home for the holidays. This one is of the girls - Adeline and our family friends from Atlanta who stayed with us for Christmas - watching Kelsy, our cousin, and Elliott, my older brother, play hockey in their weekly pick-up league. Here is Kelsy in front of the goal in her trademark orange pads. Kelsy and her cheer section. And is it really winter? My idea of what winter should look like. Skyline of Chicago from the plane. I was proud...
