These albums include photos from both the daara in Dakar where we have been filming talibes for our documentary as well as 2 villages where we spent the last 1-2 weeks interviewing the parents of talibes who have sent their children to live in the cities where they beg in the streets in order to collect money for the marabout who then uses the money to pay rent, bills, provide for his own family, etc.

Sunday, November 28, 2004. Self Conscious in Senegal. So I am here in Thies working on my independ. project, and things are going great! I have visited about 15 daaras (the run down shacks where the little talibe kids live under the 'supervision' of their marabout (islamic religious leader) . It has been crazy! Yesterday I went to a daara that had 83 talibe and ONE Marabout! Can you imagine being responsible for all those kids! Plus, can you imagine how much money this marabout is getting from the talibe?
