So Which Is It? | Dead Class Pets
http://sarahgarb.blogspot.com/2010/02/circle-yes-or-no.html
Sunday, February 28, 2010. So Which Is It? Elementary school students spend much of their energy on opinions. They form opinions. They ask other kids their. Opinions. Then they either confirm their own opinions, change their minds, or try to get the other person to change their. Mind All parties being agreed on a single opinion, though, is highly valued. Seven year olds in my classes over the years have been known to devote entire lunch periods to the following game:. 1 Sit around lunch table. The storie...
Mitt, Barack, We've Got You Covered | Dead Class Pets
http://sarahgarb.blogspot.com/2012/08/mitt-barack-weve-got-you-covered.html
Monday, August 20, 2012. Mitt, Barack, We've Got You Covered. I'm going to go out on a limb, here, and say that it's very likely that you have heard/seen/read something about the upcoming presidential election with the last nine and a half seconds. Election coverage is inescapable. You have so much paperwork.". You need to know exactly what people want.". It's true- those voters can be hard to read sometimes. If only Obama and Romney could just write some " circle yes or no. Those crowds can be huge, I'm...
Dead Class Pets: New Here?
http://sarahgarb.blogspot.com/p/new-here.html
First time visiting Dead Class Pets? If so, you should know that the controversy over who was or was not the Killer of Class Pets has yet to be resolved. And by that I mean that it was definitely my husband, Nate, who did the dirty deed of killing our class fish. But that I provided the weapon and basically framed him. What Dead Class Pets does. Feature is anecdotes from my life as an elementary school teacher in Louisiana and in Washington, D.C. I am a collector of intercepted love notes. From them, too.
Guess What | Dead Class Pets
http://sarahgarb.blogspot.com/2011/01/guess-what.html
Wednesday, January 12, 2011. If you've correctly deciphered the newly coined third grade words and phrases. You've figured out that Jacob's " leg knuckles. Are really his knees, a " fa-LEM-entine. Is a delicious fruit, the bathroom was not so much " out of water. As it was "out of or. Der," and those little "m" people. You get when you're sick? Lately I've been doing a lot of guessing to figure out what kids are talking about- and not just trying to take a stab at working out their word substitutions.
Tips for the Budding Actor | Dead Class Pets
http://sarahgarb.blogspot.com/2009/05/tips-for-budding-actor.html
Friday, May 29, 2009. Tips for the Budding Actor. Last night was the big performance of our D.C. government. Let me tell you—you ain’t seen nothin’ until you’ve seen the D.C. City Administrator pop out from a giant government guide. Watch out Broadway! For anyone wanting to make it big in the acting business, take some tips from the third grade. That Darius comment still cracks me up! I may be a bit biased, but I think I'm not the only one who thinks you could take this thing on the road! May 29, 2009.

an army of ermas: Water makes me poop.
http://www.anarmyofermas.com/2010/04/water-makes-me-poop.html
Water makes me poop. For some, water can be fatal. My 3-year-old son enlightened me to the danger. If not for him- I may be in critical condition, right now. Normally I am very proud of my children's eating habits. They eat tomatoes like apples, beg for salad and think broccoli is a treat. How often do you hear kids fight over the broccoli stem? Back to the deadly water. Water is nasty.". Water is not nasty, honey. It makes you grow.". No NO water. It makes me throw up.". The biggest problem was that he'...

Cooking for Three and a Half. Alternative Titles: LITERALLY 30 minute meals - Cheaper than TakeOut - Cooking on the Fly. Monday, October 27, 2008. Monday, October 13, 2008. Should be a three day weekend. Where free time exists and outings can be had. That is much better than lemon drops and gum drops falling from the sky- sorry, bad mommy humor? Saturday was library and grocery shopping day with mommy. Chris also took Gideon for a nice long walk that afternoon, giving me some well deserved R and R. On th...
Cooking for Three and a Half: Menu for this week

Cooking for Three and a Half. Alternative Titles: LITERALLY 30 minute meals - Cheaper than TakeOut - Cooking on the Fly. Friday, August 06, 2010. Menu for this week. This is just random things I like to eat page now. I am moving to a new place in my cooking, where I throw caution to the wind and NOT USE recipes. Yesterday I just threw some butter and garlic into a pan, sauteed some shrimp, guaging their doneness BY EYE, and sprinkling lemon juice on it because that seemed to make sense! Menu for this week.
an army of ermas: The Agony Of The Feet
http://www.anarmyofermas.com/2010/05/agony-of-feet.html
The Agony Of The Feet. At the beach, I immediately sat down on the nearest bench to catch my breath. This was hard work! I finally got up and started my walk on the boardwalk. It was a good pace, the kind where I watched the sailboats and fishing boats out at sea, and took in the people sitting peacefully in their beach chairs, reading. I waved to a few friends and strangers. My husband calls my type of walking "meandering.". May 26, 2010 at 9:20 AM. A chair and a book? Thats my kind of walk. ;). Bare fee...
an army of ermas: Getting Thrifty
http://www.anarmyofermas.com/2011/11/getting-thrifty.html
I’m not a very good shopper. My friends tell me I shop like a guy – I know what I want, I walk in, I buy it, and I leave. Shopping is a “Wham-bam-thank-you-Kohl’s” experience for me – other than cute shoes and pretty lingerie, there aren’t many things I really dig shopping for. The thrift store isn’t shopping. It’s a treasure hunt. Kids need winter jackets? November 22, 2011 at 7:03 AM. Awesome post. :D. We have a few huge ones near here, and its about time I revisited. :). November 25, 2011 at 12:13 AM.
Cooking for Three and a Half: July 2010

Cooking for Three and a Half. Alternative Titles: LITERALLY 30 minute meals - Cheaper than TakeOut - Cooking on the Fly. Monday, July 19, 2010. New apartment, new kitchen, new challenges. I just moved into my new apartment a few weeks ago. It was built in the 1930's and it's adorable. It's tough. I have a third of the cabinet and counter space I used to have and even though it's not bad for a dc kitchen, it's tricky. Note: no dishwasher. Look at my circa 1970 refrigerator- if you dare:. An unfortunate si...

an army of ermas: Portable Pizza Pockets
http://www.anarmyofermas.com/2012/09/portable-pizza-pockets.html
I'm a big fan of portable food. Anything I can hold in my hand to eat is practically an automatic win. I'm sure lots of other people feel the same way – hence the popularity of products such as the Hot Pocket. They're cheap and they're quick to prepare. They're also easy to make yourself – and you can get a much better idea of what they contain if you prepare them yourself. One package pizza dough. Pizza fillings, such as ham, pepperoni, or veggies. Make a bunch of these and bake them ahead of time, then...

Monday, August 27, 2012. The main up side to adulthood, of course, is that you get to use hot tubs. At least, that seemed to be the one salient benefit of being a grown-up according to Hanna and Tyrica in their book, How to Be a Kid. In addition to their list of pros and cons of being a kid. The girls also laid out a summary of life stages. Essentially there is a fantastic period of work-free glory days sandwiched between long stretches of boring. At least babies get to be cute.
