Out there, somewhere. Huck Finn Has Nothin’ On Us. The Pearl of Africa. June 22, 2010. Today, I’ve got a small intestinal sickness, so I’m staying home from work. I’ll use the opportunity to reflect on Uganda, past vs. present. It’s anyone’s guess. Yes, yes it does. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. Huck Finn Has Nothin’ On Us. Out there, somewhere. Greatest Hits →. July 16, 2010. This is likely my last post from Uganda. Tomorrow, I will leave Masaka somewhere between the hours of 9 and 10 am, spend a leisurely day in Entebbe, and depart at 10:50 pm As such, I’m experiencing a lot of bittersweet moments nowadays. I’ll illustrate a few of those with some final vignettes from Masaka. Our Nzizi clients planting seeds in the nurseries. A turkey family portrait. They also had this cat. How can you not love this cat? All that’s...

Out there, somewhere. July 19, 2010. As of last night, I am back home in Lewisville, TX, safe and sound, with no lost luggage. As a retrospective on my time in Uganda, I’ve compiled a collection of Top 5 lists. Some are tongue-in-cheek, some are sincere, some are sad, some are happy; but together, they ought to give you a pretty good idea of what I did in Uganda and what I felt about what I was doing. Without further ado, I give you the Top 5:. 1 Mosquitoes (inside net). 3 Mosquitoes (outside net). Card ...

Rain and Shine | Out there, somewhere
https://mtlawson.wordpress.com/2010/06/28/rain-and-shine
Out there, somewhere. June 28, 2010. Friday marked the formal beginning of our project. I know I’ve already posted sentences equivalent to that, oh, four times now, but this time it’s for real. I say so because on Friday we made a tangible step: we (finally) constructed the first of our five kitchen gardens in Nzizi. The TASO truck awaits. Using sticks and a rope to measure out the circle. The perimeter nearly complete. The water repository, wrapped with matooke leaves. Donors love pictures like this.

Out there, somewhere. July 7, 2010. Sorry for the long gap between updates–I’ve had zero time to find internet since the last post. Regardless, lots of things have happened. First off, we’ve made some more significant progress on the kitchen gardens. We finished one on Thursday and one on Friday, bringing the total to three. The new gardens are both of the same design, but they are significantly smaller, due to the land constraints of the clients. Using ash to outline the perimeter of the garden. After n...

Out there, somewhere. Newer posts →. Huck Finn Has Nothin’ On Us. June 21, 2010. Ah, the River Nile. The Nile has many significances known to me: cradle of an entire civilization. Source of livelihood for a staggering portion of an entire continent. Answer to many a trivia question. And, as of this weekend, a new one: location of the greatest whitewater rafting in the world. 8221;, at which point all the rafters put their paddles up and shout “Happy day! 8221;, continued paddling hard while crouching as ...
