Sarah Hill's Art

Saturday, 1 March 2014. Yesterday was the penultimate day of life painting and the model, Duck, was a lovely young man who was very easy on the eye! The challenge of this was how to get the whole composition to work when the figure was taking up a right angled shape leaving a large expanse of nothing. The cloth was hung so that the folds were vertical and so I decided to make marks that were more lively and horizontal to balance the figure. Saturday, 15 February 2014. Sarah Hill's Art : December 2012

http://www.sarahofkippen.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 19 December 2012. Assignment 4 Figure drawing. This is put together in a rush and the two drawings chosen from a selection of many figure drawing done in the last few months. I realise that I have not done a line drawing of a seated figure but I hope that my other drawings show an indication of my use of line. This is Kate relaxing. Drawn from a sketch as she was recovering from lunch. A2 paper and charcoal. I have done many versions of this drawing under the entry. First, I noticed that some ...

Sarah Hill's Art : February 2013

http://www.sarahofkippen.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Saturday, 2 February 2013. Still Life at Leith. This is a collection of still life drawings done at Leith School of Art. The next drawing was done in the main studio which has rather no daylight and rather an inefficient lighting system. There was a long table with an array of fruit, candles and material spread randomly. The lack of light was difficult and getting used to such a lot of objects and again, having to choose from so much, I found difficult. This proved quite tricky as, first, the stick was i...

Sarah Hill's Art : Self portraits

http://www.sarahofkippen.blogspot.com/2013/12/self-portraits.html

Monday, 16 December 2013. I decided to try a self portraits using the same way of painting that I used to paint the jam jars. One layer of paint next to another, hardly any drawing but trying to get the relationship of colours to work better. The first one looks a little more like me. Rather solemn and a bit grim but that is perhaps what I appear to be when concentrating. To me it is a better likeness but friends have said not. I need to do several of these to experiment with composition and colour.

Sarah Hill's Art : January 2013

http://www.sarahofkippen.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 15 January 2013. Figure drawing at Leith School of Art. Friday was the first day of term at Leith and I had not picked up a brush or pencil since before Christmas. A1 paper, stick and ink, two minute poses. The stick did not work, the ink was diluted and I was in shock! After the break we had a succession of quick poses with two models who were alternately moving and keeping still for two minutes or less. A4 paper with pencil. The afternoon was a longer pose. Charcoal of A2 paper.

The greatest WordPress.com site in all the land! July 27, 2013 / vanessaparkinson. Here are the 2 self portraits I have done so far which follow a few preliminary drawings. Each one was done sitting in front of a mirror and both are far better than I anticipated they would be! 1 A4 Conte crayons. 2 A4 HB pencil. Which drawing material produced the best results – why? Does your self portrait look like you? My first thought when standing back from 2. was that it looks like my Aunt, who in turn I am tol...

The greatest WordPress.com site in all the land! July 22, 2013 / vanessaparkinson. The marathon ends … Day 3 life drawing Chloe. 3rd and final day of Life Drawing Summer School. Tutor Cindy, model Chloe. Several quick warm up exercises started the session, to try to loosen us up. This first one was done without looking at the paper and I think it has captured the pose. A2 charcoal and pencil – we had 5 minutes for each. I am quite pleased with both, the negative space really helped in the second one.

On the hottest day of the year so far I did a 5 hour portrait workshop with Scott – whose life drawing workshop I attended back in September . Once again a similar day of differing poses and timings in order to become familiar with drawing Steve. The afternoon was a long pose for which I once again used acrylics. I applied the acrylics too heavily on the legs in this piece but gradually started to get better control of the medium. Cynthia / Jul 22 2013 2:44 pm.

A Major Mystery

Monday, September 9, 2013. Some moments can last a lifetime, and for the otherwise sordid life of Nick Major, this moment would last forever. Nick lay on the bed holding the dog in his arms, sobbing and cursing himself, in the depths of shame and despair at his failure to save him. 'I'm so sorry Cello', he cried out to no one-or so he thought. Suddenly Nick sensed a presence in the middle of the bed; someone was standing there! Being spoken to in a very firm, but loving way. He merely said, "It's all...
