An audacious combined garden and farm update. July 27, 2012. Lo and behold, here are the last of the golden peas to be eaten. Here’s a glimpse of the overcrowding at tomato-basil-anise corner. The weird little patch that couldn’t decide what it was going to be when it grew up. Tried chives. Tried mari...I’m s...

Sarah's Garden Stuff. Triumphs and travails on a farm and in a garden. Skip to primary content. The end of the week at the farm. August 19, 2012. Both days I picked tomatoes. Is there a single day I don’t pick tomatoes or do something related to tomatoes? I picked strawberries again on Friday. Then I discovered on Saturday how much a pint goes for, and realized that I should probably be picking a lot faster. But it went quicker, so at least that. Here is the glorious castor bean flower. I gave the ot...

How can I despise the daffodil? | The Death-Proof Garden
https://thedeathproofgarden.wordpress.com/2013/02/18/how-can-i-despise-the-daffodil
You're a killer and you know it. Change your destiny! Plants Not From My Garden. How can I despise the daffodil? February 18, 2013. Daffodils are curious little fellows. The daffodil bulbs hide in your garden all summer and fall, then, when everything else is dying in the backyard, their leaves start poking out of the soil in winter. However, what always irked me about daffodils was the hysterically short display of blooms in spring–at least, the ones in. The pots were placed in various spots around the ...

You're a killer and you know it. Change your destiny! Plants Not From My Garden. February 18, 2013. My husband knew not to buy me roses for Valentine’s Day, so he came home with these tulips instead. I love ’em. And then the flowers opened up two days later. February 7, 2013. Granted, this is winter so they wouldn’t be all gorgeous and blooming, but the leaves were turning black and crunchy way back in summer. Also, the canna lilies that are supposed to grow up to 4 feet tall never gained an in...Anyhoo,...

Sarah’s Garden Stuff. Sweden, Part 2. July 9, 2014. The next part of my Swedish adventure comprised a hike out to a pretty stretch of white sand beach and a walk in Trädgårdsföreningen, or the Garden Society of Gothenburg. 2 Lichen. As my friend told me, it’s not a photo album of mine unless there’s some lichen. 3 Wild lupine was everywhere. 5 Prince Bertil’s Path. 6 The tall rhododendrons blew this girl away. 7 Wild geranium everywhere. 8 – Inside a greenhouse. 14 – More wild geraniums. https://thedeathproofgarden.wordpress.com/2013/03/02/what-is-this-plant
You're a killer and you know it. Change your destiny! Plants Not From My Garden. What is this plant? March 2, 2013. Back in the fall, there was a plant sprouting up in my gladiolus pot. I didn’t know what it was, but I figured it would be pretty so I let it grow. I watered it whenever I watered my other plants. This picture is from October 2012:. The plant has fans, so it probably is an iris or gladiolus of some sort? A few days ago, the buds looked like this:. From → Garden Commentary. It is common flow...

https://thedeathproofgarden.wordpress.com/2013/03/28/onions
You're a killer and you know it. Change your destiny! Plants Not From My Garden. March 28, 2013. Today I decided to rip the onions out of the vegetable bed–mainly because I needed the room for the corn! These onions have been in the ground since last summer I think. I hope they’re okay to eat. One of them even put out a flower bud, which I’m sorry I won’t see bloom now. After the roots have been cut off:. From → Garden Commentary. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. You're a killer and you know it. Change your destiny! Plants Not From My Garden. March 17, 2013. Well, I never cut the buds off. It just seems wrong somehow. So this is what happens to kale when you let it do whatever it wants. They make me think of funny aliens for some reason. Here are the flowers on the purple kale. I didn’t cut the flowers off because I wanted to see what they looked like, so the plant got ‘leggy.’. Here are the coleus flowers, which I think are pretty too. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Sarah’s Garden Stuff. Sweden, Part 1. July 3, 2014. One month ago I was still on vacation in beautiful Sweden. I think you all — yes, even you– should go there if you have a chance. Maybe not all at once. Don’t crowd them. Try some Swedish pizza–see what you think of it. It should surprise no one that most of the pictures are of landscapes and plants. A couple feature cats. (Well, one cat.) I will never stray far from my roots, even if I am over 3,000 miles away from my geographical ones. 18 It’s w...
