Tuesday, October 13, 2009. This is the Summer Solstice coin that Cathy sent the boys. We left it in a cache pretty close to our house. The flip side. Someone had left a travel bug in the CV cache, so we took that, and put it in a cache in Sedona. The travel bugs can also be tracked on the website. Well, I remembered to bring the D70 for morning 2, but left the memory card at home-HA We spent the morning watching a demo and then I started another smaller blade with the leftover piece of steel from the handle of this one. I removed all the scale off the blade with the belt sander and a 36 grit belt. Next comes the handle. We had some cherry wood left over from our mantle, so I'm using that. Tuesday, November 25, 2008. Took a field trip with the second graders today. Our first stop was Montezuma's Castle, a Sinaguan Indian cliff dwelling. It was thought to be Aztecan when it was first discovered, hence the name. The kids had fun reading the info plaques. We had a worksheet with questions to answer. Overlooking the banks of Beaver Creek, the inhabitants were farmers, and built elaborate irrigation systems to water their crops. A nice field trip, and a short bus ride! Links to this post. So, after this picture, we hiked over the creek and through the woods, to the 'back side of the rock, and climbed almost all the way up. LOVE this prickly pear pad! View from the other side. Wednesday, July 29, 2009. Once in awhile, we take the boys up to Williams, the last town on Route 66 to be bypassed by Interstate 40. Ther's an indoor skatepark up there, so they go there, and Eric and I explore the small town a bit. Next time, we might venture out and take a hike somewhere. Ther's only so many souvenier shops to see there. Look at that sky! We haven't eaten here, but I liked the cow. We did have breakfast here one day before the skate park. Good pancakes! Wednesday, September 30, 2009. Pricly Pear Fruit Jam. Our neighbors have a TON of prickly pear plants lining their front yard. I thought it would be fun to try and make some jam with the fruits. I took the boys over last Sunday to pick a peck. These are five gallon buckets, each about half full. You couldn't even tell we had picked any off their plants when we were through. Very prolific! Thursday, January 21, 2010. After watching a blacksmithing demo that included some forge welded overlays, I was inspired to make these pendants. I soldered some square silver wire onto some steel bar stock, then hammered the silver flat. I love the look! All four of these were made with 3/4" wide stock. The rectangles are 3/4"x1". Thursday, April 8, 2010. I have been getting some requests for peace signs, and finally got around to making some. This pendant is a 1 1/4" steel square, with a sterling peace sign overlaid onto it. It is shown here hanging on a gunmetal gray rubber cord, available in 16 or 18" lengths. As shown, or with a black rubber cord, they are $40.00.
